Domaine Philippe Charlopin-Parizot — An Expressive, Generous and Deeply Earthy Burgundy

Domaine Philippe Charlopin-Parizot is one of the most recognisable names in Gevrey-Chambertin and contemporary Burgundy. Founded in 1977 from around 1.5 hectares of family vines, the domaine gradually established itself as a reference in the Côte de Nuits thanks to the energy, personality and bold vision of Philippe Charlopin.

Inspired by the teachings of Henri Jayer, Philippe Charlopin developed, from the 1980s onward, a generous, ripe, expressive and deeply seductive style. Today, the domaine is run alongside his son Yann Charlopin, in a family continuity that seeks to preserve the house’s historic intensity while further refining balance, aromatic precision and terroir definition.

The spirit of the estate

A Burgundy of character, driven by ripe fruit, depth of texture and a direct expression of terroir. Domaine Philippe Charlopin-Parizot produces broad, velvety and aromatic wines, capable of seducing in youth while retaining true ageing potential in the greatest climats.

Terroir: a vast heritage across the Côte de Nuits, Côte de Beaune and Chablis

The domaine now covers around 25 hectares, spread across a broad mosaic of appellations in the Côte de Nuits, the Côte de Beaune and the Chablis region. This diversity is one of the estate’s strengths, allowing it to offer a complete range, from regional Burgundy wines to some of the most prestigious Grand Crus.

The historical heart remains Gevrey-Chambertin, whose clay-limestone soils, depth and natural power suit the domaine’s style particularly well. Parcels in Morey-Saint-Denis, Chambolle-Musigny, Vosne-Romanée, Marsannay, Pernand-Vergelesses, Puligny-Montrachet and Chablis complete this broad reading of Burgundy.

Terroir expression: Gevrey-Chambertin, Côte de Nuits, Côte de Beaune, Chablis, clay-limestone soils, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, black fruits, spices, graphite, wet stone and mineral freshness.

Charlopin signature: ripe fruit, velvety texture, ambitious ageing, aromatic depth, controlled power, polished tannins and Burgundian generosity.

Viticulture: ripeness, selection and respect for balance

The domaine’s viticulture aims to obtain perfectly ripe, healthy and concentrated grapes, capable of conveying both the character of the vintage and the personality of each climat. Soil work, controlled yields and rigorous bunch selection form the foundation of this approach.

Harvesting is carried out by hand, with careful sorting. The goal is to preserve fruit richness without losing the wine’s natural balance. In recent vintages, the pursuit of greater freshness and more precise terroir expression has accompanied the continuity of the domaine’s style.

Aromatic profile

Reds: black cherry, morello cherry, blackberry, cassis, fresh plum, ripe black fruits, dark raspberry and wild berries.

Spices and evolution: liquorice, soft pepper, cinnamon, cocoa, forest floor, fine leather, tobacco, smoky notes and discreet truffle.

Whites: ripe lemon, apple, pear, white flowers, almond, wet stone, chalk, salinity and mineral tension.

Overall impression: broad, expressive and fleshy wines, combining fruit depth, velvety texture, aromatic intensity and strong ageing capacity.

Vinification: intensity and precision

Vinification is carried out parcel by parcel, in order to preserve the identity of each climat. The domaine’s historical approach favours ripe grapes, macerations long enough to build texture and depth, and ambitious ageing adapted to the level of each cuvée.

Harvest: manual, with strict bunch sorting and a search for optimal ripeness.

Vinification: parcel-based vinification, macerations adapted to the vintage and a search for velvety extraction.

Whole clusters: variable proportion depending on cuvée and vintage, used when stem ripeness allows.

Ageing: oak barrels, with a higher proportion of new oak for top-level cuvées, particularly certain Grand Crus.

Philosophy: combine intensity, immediate pleasure, depth of texture and ageing potential.

Wine style

The red wines of Domaine Philippe Charlopin-Parizot stand out for their generous character, ripe fruit, velvety texture and aromatic intensity. They are often charming in youth, while the finest terroirs reveal greater complexity over time, with spice, forest floor, smoky nuances and melted tannins.

The whites, especially those from Chablis and Corton-Charlemagne, show another side of the domaine: more pronounced minerality, saline tension, limestone freshness and breadth on the palate. Across the range, the wines express a Burgundy of personality, expressive and immediately recognisable.
