Maison Louis Jadot — The Classic Elegance of Burgundy
Founded in 1859 in Beaune by Louis Henry Denis Jadot, Maison Louis Jadot is one of Burgundy’s most emblematic historic names. Both estate owner, négociant and wine grower, it embodies a complete vision of the region, from regional appellations to the most sought-after Premier Crus and Grand Crus.
The family’s viticultural history began even before the creation of the house, with the acquisition in 1826 of Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Ursules, still one of Louis Jadot’s most iconic cuvées today. Since 1985, the house has belonged to the Kopf family. It is now led by Thomas Seiter, president since 2023, with Thibault Gagey as managing director.
A great Burgundian house, classical and precise, whose ambition is to reveal the personality of each appellation with clarity. Louis Jadot favours balance, aromatic purity, a well-judged structure and faithful expression of the climats, without ever seeking excessive stylistic effect.
History: from Clos des Ursules to a great international house
Clos des Ursules, acquired by the Jadot family in 1826, forms the historical foundation of the house. This Beaune monopole, located within the Vignes Franches climat, still symbolises the continuity between family roots, Beaune identity and the ambition to produce age-worthy wines.
Over the generations, Louis Jadot developed its activity as a négociant-éleveur, acquired estates and strengthened its international reputation, particularly in the United States. Its pale-yellow label bearing the head of Bacchus has become one of the most recognisable images of Burgundy wine worldwide.
Terroirs: Côte d’Or, Mâconnais and Beaujolais
Maison Louis Jadot now controls a very extensive vineyard heritage, often presented at around 270 hectares, spread across the Côte d’Or, the Mâconnais and Beaujolais. This diversity allows the house to cover much of the Burgundian hierarchy, from regional appellations to Grand Crus.
The estate draws on major terroirs in the Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune, as well as two essential properties: Château des Jacques in Beaujolais, acquired in 1996, and Domaine Ferret in Fuissé, in Pouilly-Fuissé, acquired in 2008. These two estates reinforce the house’s broad interpretation of southern Burgundy and terroir-driven Gamay.
Terroir expression: Beaune, Côte de Nuits, Côte de Beaune, Mâconnais, Beaujolais, limestone, clay, marl, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Gamay, freshness, structure and minerality.
Jadot signature: classicism, precision, consistency, parcel-by-parcel vinification, measured ageing, respect for appellation and balance between fruit, structure and longevity.
Viticulture, parcel approach and cooperage
Louis Jadot works its vineyards with the intention of preserving the identity of each climat. Practices vary according to estate, appellation and viticultural context, but the overall philosophy is based on respect for the soil, controlled yields, careful harvesting and precise vinification.
To further refine its control of ageing, the house created its own cooperage, Tonnellerie Cadus, in the 1990s. This control over oak allows the choice of barrels to be adapted to the needs of each terroir, without masking the personality of the wine.
Pinot Noir: red cherry, morello cherry, raspberry, wild strawberry, peony, fine spices, forest floor and structured tannins.
Chardonnay: lemon, pear, fresh apple, white flowers, almond, fine hazelnut, wet stone, chalk and saline freshness.
Terroir-driven Gamay: cherry, blackberry, violet, pepper, graphite, sweet spices and deep texture.
Overall impression: classical, clear and balanced wines, favouring purity, structure, consistency and the expression of each appellation.
Vinification: precision and respect for appellations
The house follows a parcel-by-parcel approach: each origin is vinified and aged to preserve the identity of its terroir. The reds seek balance between fruit, tannin and structure, while the whites aim for tension, purity and measured breadth.
Harvest: rigorous selection according to grape ripeness and health.
Reds: precise vinification, adapted extractions, seeking structured yet harmonious tannins.
Whites: tailor-made ageing, preserving minerality, freshness and aromatic balance.
Philosophy: translate the character of each appellation with accuracy, from regional Burgundy to Grand Cru.
Emblematic cuvées, estates and climats
Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Ursules: the house’s historic monopole, an elegant, structured and profound Pinot Noir with excellent ageing potential.

Wine style
The wines of Maison Louis Jadot stand out for their clarity, balance and fidelity to their appellations. The reds combine pure fruit, classical structure and firm yet harmonious tannins. The whites favour tension, minerality and controlled breadth.
This consistency explains Louis Jadot’s strong position in international markets, particularly in the United States. The house offers a complete gateway into Burgundy while also producing high-level cuvées capable of ageing with elegance.
