A legendary and visionary estate
Founded in 1872 in Morey-Saint-Denis, Domaine Ponsot is one of the most iconic names in the Côte de Nuits. Long led by Laurent Ponsot, a pioneering and independent figure in contemporary Burgundy, the estate has built its reputation on a unique philosophy: letting the fruit and the terroir speak for themselves. The vineyard covers around 10 hectares with an exceptional heritage of old vines on legendary climats such as Clos de la Roche, Clos Saint-Denis, Griotte-Chambertin, Chambertin, Corton… as well as premiers crus and village sites farmed with the same precision as the grands crus.
Philosophy & winemaking
- Respectful viticulture inspired by biodynamics, without formal certification.
- Very late harvests to achieve optimal phenolic ripeness.
- Natural fermentations with indigenous yeasts, no inoculation.
- No sulfur added at bottling, no fining, no filtration.
- Long ageing in old barrels or neutral containers (truncated conical vats) to preserve purity.
Wine style
Ponsot wines are instantly recognizable for their verticality, depth, and aerial texture. The bouquet expresses intense aromas of ripe red fruits, fine spices, dried flowers, and earth. On the palate, concentration is balanced by mineral freshness and a unique silky texture. These are slow-evolving wines capable of ageing for decades. The domaine also produces rare and expressive whites, including a unique Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru Aligoté.
