Discover Our Selection of Verona Wines — Soave, Valpolicella and Amarone

The Verona wine region, in the heart of Veneto, is home to some of Italy’s most classic and distinctive wines. From the refined white wines of Soave to the fruit-driven reds of Valpolicella, and from the powerful Amarone della Valpolicella to the opulent Recioto della Valpolicella, this area offers a remarkable diversity of styles. Its wines are deeply rooted in native grape varieties such as Garganega, Trebbiano di Soave, Corvina, Rondinella and Molinara.

Soave: Verona’s Great White Wine Expression

Soave is one of Veneto’s most emblematic white wines. Made mainly from Garganega, often complemented by Trebbiano di Soave, it usually produces dry, still and elegant wines. The finest Soave wines are known for their freshness, aromatic finesse and notes of white flowers, almond, pear, citrus and sometimes warm stone.

Although Soave is most often appreciated as a dry white wine, the appellation can also produce rarer styles, including sparkling or sweet versions. Recioto di Soave, made from dried grapes, reveals deeper richness, with aromas of honey, candied fruit, apricot and sweet almond.

Valpolicella: A Generous and Fruit-Driven Red from Verona

Valpolicella is traditionally made from a blend of Corvina, Rondinella and Molinara, sometimes complemented by other local grape varieties. It is one of Italy’s most important appellations and is appreciated for its approachable, fruity and generous character. In its classic form, Valpolicella offers notes of cherry, red berries and gentle spices, with a supple, fresh and immediately enjoyable palate.

These red wines pair beautifully with simple and flavourful Italian cuisine: antipasti, cured meats, pasta dishes, risotto, roast poultry, quality pizza and semi-mature cheeses. Their freshness and bright fruit make them convivial wines while preserving the identity of the Veronese terroir.

Amarone and Recioto: The Nobility of Dried Grapes

Valpolicella is also famous for wines made from partially dried grapes using the traditional appassimento method. This technique concentrates aromas, texture and structure, giving rise to wines of remarkable depth and intensity.

Amarone della Valpolicella is a great dry red wine, rich, powerful and complex, capable of ageing for many years. Recioto della Valpolicella, more opulent and sweet, expresses natural richness, with notes of preserved dark fruit, chocolate, spice and remarkable aromatic intensity. Together, these two styles represent the deepest and most prestigious expression of Verona’s red wines.

Native Grape Varieties Shaped by Terroir

The wines of Verona owe their personality to local grape varieties that have long been cultivated in the region. Garganega gives Soave its elegance, floral notes, freshness and sometimes impressive ageing potential. Trebbiano di Soave adds finesse and tension to the best white wines.

For the red wines, Corvina plays a central role, bringing structure, black cherry aromas and ageing potential. Rondinella contributes balance and is particularly well suited to drying, while Molinara brings freshness and brightness to the blend.
