Amarone della Valpolicella 2003 — Romano Dal Forno
This Amarone della Valpolicella 2003 from Romano Dal Forno, offered here in the rare 5 L format, expresses all the power and depth of Monte Lodoletta in a warm, sun-filled vintage. The wine unfolds with dense, velvety and spectacular substance, driven by dark fruit, dried plum, fig, bitter chocolate, liquorice, smoke and a remarkably persistent finish.
Terroir: Monte Lodoletta, Val d’Illasi and the concentration of appassimento
Located in the Val d’Illasi, east of the historic Valpolicella area, the Monte Lodoletta vineyard gives rise to wines of exceptional density. Appassimento, the long drying of the grapes, naturally concentrates sugars, polyphenols and aromas, giving Amarone its distinctive depth and richness.
The 2003 vintage, marked by heat, enhances the wine’s richness, ripe fruit and enveloping texture. In large format, evolution is slower and more stable, preserving aromatic intensity while encouraging the development of greater complexity over time.
Tasting notes
Appearance: very deep garnet with dark ruby and mahogany highlights, dense, brilliant and still remarkably sustained.
Nose: broad and sumptuous, with dark fruit, black cherry, dried plum, fig, bitter chocolate, liquorice, tar, smoke and sweet spices. With aeration, notes of mocha, fine leather, tobacco, balsamic nuances and dried herbs begin to emerge.
Palate: full, dense and enveloping, with a velvety texture and impressive depth. The tannins are ripe, the substance generous, and the finish lingers on dark chocolate, liquorice, smoke, spices and a dark mineral impression.
Fruit: dark fruit, black cherry, dried plum, fig, raisin, candied fruit.
Oak and spices: bitter chocolate, mocha, cocoa, sweet spices, tobacco, fine leather, balsamic notes.
