Château Angélus 2017
Château Angélus 2017 embodies a refined and precise interpretation of Saint-Émilion. Driven by vibrant fruit, the elegance of Cabernet Franc, and remarkable freshness, this vintage stands out for its balance, tension, and beautifully controlled depth.
Overview
Château Angélus is one of the most iconic estates of Saint-Émilion, renowned for wines that combine intensity, precision, and a deep connection to their terroir. The vineyard is rooted in a mosaic of clay-limestone and clay-sandy soils, bringing both structure and freshness to the wine.
The 2017 vintage reveals a particularly elegant expression of the estate. Following a challenging yet ultimately successful growing season, the grapes reached excellent maturity, resulting in a wine defined by aromatic purity, refined tannins, and natural tension. The equal blend of Merlot and Cabernet Franc highlights the crucial role of Cabernet Franc in shaping the wine’s structure, lift, and length.
In this vintage, Angélus favors finesse over sheer power, focusing on precision, clarity of fruit, and structural sophistication. The result is a harmonious and distinguished Bordeaux, already appealing for its elegance while offering excellent aging potential.
Tasting Notes
Nose:
The bouquet opens with pure and elegant aromas of ripe black fruits, blackcurrant, and blackberry, enhanced by hints of violet, graphite, and a delicate minty freshness. With aeration, subtle notes of spices, fine oak, and licorice emerge.
Palate:
The attack is clean, energetic, and precise. The wine unfolds with a generous yet controlled texture, supported by very fine, silky tannins. The mid-palate combines density, freshness, and tension, while Cabernet Franc brings lift, structure, and elegance to the overall profile.
Finish:
Long, fresh, and complex, the finish lingers on notes of black fruit, soft spices, and graphite. It leaves a lasting impression of precision, balance, and refinement, characteristic of the estate’s most classic vintages.
