Château des Tours Vacqueyras 2017 — Emmanuel Reynaud

Château des Tours Vacqueyras 2017 is one of the most sought-after wines from the Emmanuel Reynaud universe, alongside Château Rayas and Château de Fonsalette. Produced in Sarrians, in the heart of the Vacqueyras appellation, it offers a highly distinctive expression of the Southern Rhône: less demonstrative than powerful, more aerial than massive, with the perfumed depth that defines Reynaud’s wines.

Made from a Grenache-dominant blend completed by Syrah, this 2017 expresses the warmth of the vintage with remarkable textural elegance. The wine combines ripe red fruit, gentle spices, Provençal herbs, a subtle truffle note and supple tannins, in a long, velvety and deeply gastronomic style.

Terroir

Château des Tours is located in Sarrians, within the Vacqueyras sector. The vines benefit from a Mediterranean climate shaped by intense light, the mistral and full ripeness, while retaining an unexpectedly refined expression when Grenache is handled with precision. The estate’s Vacqueyras Rouge is officially based on a blend of 80% Grenache and 20% Syrah, producing a wine that is sunny, fragrant and structured, yet always faithful to the lightly extracted elegance of the Reynaud style.

Tasting notes

Appearance: ruby to garnet red, relatively pale for the appellation, with a luminous character that recalls the finesse of great Southern Rhône Grenache.

Nose: aromas of ripe strawberry, red cherry, candied raspberry, plum, blood orange, soft liquorice and white pepper, followed by notes of garrigue, dried herbs, delicate undergrowth and a subtle truffle nuance.

Palate: ample, silky and enveloping in texture, with melted tannins, generous yet never heavy fruit, and a discreet freshness that lengthens the wine. The finish lingers on ripe red fruit, spices, Provençal herbs and a noble earthy touch.

Expert review

93/100 – Vinous: a high score for Château des Tours Vacqueyras 2017, confirming the singularity of the Reynaud style in the Southern Rhône. The wine stands out for its perfumed expression, depth of fruit, velvety texture and balance between Mediterranean ripeness and natural elegance.

Expression of the vintage

The 2017 vintage was warm, dry and marked by reduced yields in the Southern Rhône, producing grapes of notable concentration. In this context, Château des Tours Vacqueyras 2017 shows fine density while preserving the balance and drinkability that define the estate. The wine is now entering a particularly attractive phase, where ripe fruit begins to merge with more evolved notes of undergrowth, spice, truffle and garrigue.

In summary: a rare and sought-after Vacqueyras from Emmanuel Reynaud, rated 93/100 by Vinous. A Southern Rhône red that is ample, perfumed, silky and highly distinctive, offering a more accessible doorway into the Rayas universe.

Food pairings: roast lamb with herbs, veal chop with morels, guinea fowl with gentle spices, Provençal beef stew, olive-oil confit vegetables, truffle-based cuisine or aged hard cheeses.
