"Obrecht's 2019 Pinot Noir Monolith opens with a fascinating, intense yet also refined, fresh, pure and elegant, immediately alluring nose of ripe fruits (wild strawberries, ripe black berries and black cherries) and super elegant terroir notes of lime and schist. Pure, finessed and enormously vital in the mouth, with very fine tannins and crystalline, mineral acidity, this is a complex and seamlessly textured, perfectly balanced Pinot from vines almost 60 years old on calcareous, weathered slate soils in Jenins and Malans. The finish is pure, refined and perfectly balanced between the austerity of terroir structure and this amazing finessed and silky Pinot fruit. It is most probably the finest Monolith I have tasted so far."
