Pinot Noir Eichholz 2015 — Irène Grünenfelder

This Pinot Noir Eichholz 2015 from Irène Grünenfelder embodies a rare, elegant and subtly evolved expression of Pinot Noir from Graubünden. From the Bündner Herrschaft, one of Switzerland’s great terroirs for this grape variety, it combines Alpine finesse, pure fruit and delicate texture in a refined, precise and deeply nuanced style.

The 2015 vintage brings greater ripeness and depth, while preserving the elegance that defines the finest Pinot Noirs of the region: red cherry, Morello cherry, ripe raspberry, wild strawberry, old rose, violet, fine spices, black tea, delicate forest floor, fresh earth and a subtle mineral touch. The wine is now entering a beautiful phase of maturity, between time-polished fruit, freshness and complexity.

The spirit of the wine

A great Swiss Pinot Noir of finesse, maturity and balance. Eichholz 2015 seduces through its delicately evolved red fruit, silky texture, Alpine freshness and floral, spicy and mineral finish. A rare, elegant and beautifully controlled cuvée, illustrating the nobility of the finest Pinot Noirs from Graubünden.

Terroir: Graubünden, Alpine freshness and Pinot Noir finesse

The vineyards of Graubünden offer Pinot Noir a cool, luminous environment particularly suited to elegant expressions of the grape. Alpine influences, temperature contrasts and well-drained soils encourage wines that are precise, fine and aromatically pure. At Irène Grünenfelder, this identity translates into a delicate, transparent Pinot Noir with great textural elegance.

Tasting notes

Appearance: luminous ruby with garnet reflections, bright and gently evolved, with fine visual elegance.

Nose: fine and expressive, with red cherry, Morello cherry, ripe raspberry, wild strawberry, old rose, violet, fine spices, black tea, fresh earth and delicate forest floor.

Palate: supple, silky and harmonious, with time-polished red fruit, fine tannins and freshness still clearly present. The finish is long, floral, delicately spicy and mineral, with an impression of finesse, purity and Alpine elegance.

Aromatic profile

Fruit: red cherry, Morello cherry, ripe raspberry, wild strawberry, time-polished small red berries.

Flowers and spices: old rose, violet, fine spices, black tea.

Terroir: fresh earth, delicate forest floor, Alpine freshness, mineral touch and elegant finish.

Expression of the 2015 vintage

The 2015 vintage gives here a Pinot Noir that is riper and more solar than 2016 or 2020, yet still balanced by the natural freshness of Graubünden. The wine gains depth, flesh and complexity while preserving an elegant and precise expression. Today, it is evolving towards nuances of forest floor, black tea, sweet spices and time-polished red fruits.

In summary: a mature, silky and intensely elegant Pinot Noir Eichholz 2015, driven by the depth of the vintage, the freshness of Graubünden and the delicate signature of Irène Grünenfelder.

Food pairing: roast poultry, duck, veal with mushrooms, pork tenderloin, morel risotto, refined Swiss cuisine, hard cheeses or delicate dishes built around root vegetables.
