Grands-Échezeaux Grand Cru 2022 — Domaine Anne Gros

The Grands-Échezeaux Grand Cru 2022 from Domaine Anne Gros is a major Côte de Nuits bottle. This vintage marks an important moment for the domaine: it is the first Grands-Échezeaux released under the Anne Gros label, from a parcel previously farmed by Gros Frère & Sœur.

Deeper, more structured and more aristocratic than Échezeaux, Grands-Échezeaux delivers here a Pinot Noir of great breed, shaped by red cherry, raspberry, dark berries, violet, sandalwood, exotic tea, fine spice and a touch of limestone. The palate combines measured power, silky texture, fresh tension and a long, saline, noble finish.

Grands-Échezeaux, a Grand Cru of depth and nobility

Situated between Échezeaux and Clos de Vougeot, Grands-Échezeaux is one of the most prestigious climats of Flagey-Échezeaux. Smaller and more homogeneous than Échezeaux, it produces wines with greater depth, firmer structure and remarkable ageing potential.

At Anne Gros, this cuvée takes on a particularly sought-after dimension. Production is very limited, and the domaine’s style brings a precise, elegant and tactile reading of Pinot Noir. The 2022 vintage adds ripeness, volume and immediate seduction, while preserving the freshness and structure required for serious cellaring.

Tasting notes

Appearance: deep ruby with purple reflections, bright and dense, showing the brilliance of a young Grand Cru.

Nose: elegant, fresh and gradually intense, with red cherry, raspberry, dark berries, violet, sandalwood, exotic tea and fine spice. With air, notes of faded rose, crushed limestone, light liquorice and noble earth bring further depth.

Palate: ample, silky and structured, with fine tannins, beautiful tension and powerful yet perfectly controlled fruit. The finish is long, spicy, lightly saline and still youthful, with a clear impression of noble depth and great potential.

Expert view

95–98/100 — Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy
94–96/100 — Vinous, Antonio Galloni
91–94/100 — Burghound, Allen Meadows

The critics praise the very high level of this first Grands-Échezeaux 2022 under the Anne Gros label. Vinous describes a precise, well-defined bouquet combining dark fruit, crushed limestone and faded rose petals, with a tense palate, fine tannins and a saline finish. Burghound highlights an airy, fresh and spicy profile, with red cherry, raspberry, sandalwood and exotic tea, supported by seductive texture, power and a long finish that remains youthful and serious. A rare and highly desirable bottle, built for lovers of great ageworthy Burgundy.

The 2022 vintage and serving advice

The 2022 vintage in red Burgundy produced ripe, generous and balanced wines, with beautiful fruit intensity and a structure often more approachable than in stricter years. In Grands-Échezeaux, this ripeness brings volume and depth, while preserving the tension that makes the climat so distinguished.

This bottle has excellent ageing potential and deserves several years in the cellar. For drinking today, open it in advance and allow it to breathe gradually in the glass rather than decanting too forcefully. Serve at around 15 to 16°C in large Burgundy glasses to preserve the aromatic finesse, texture and saline length.

Key point: a Grands-Échezeaux Grand Cru 2022 from Domaine Anne Gros, first vintage under this label, rated up to 98/100, rare, deep, silky and built for great Burgundy cellars.

Food pairings: roast pigeon, duck with cherries, veal fillet, gently roasted beef, truffled poultry, pink-roasted lamb, morel risotto, noble mushroom dishes, aged Comté or mature Burgundy cheeses.
