Bollinger La Grande Année 2007 — Magnum with precious wood presentation case

This Bollinger La Grande Année 2007 in magnum embodies one of the most gastronomic and distinctive expressions of Maison Bollinger. Produced only in vintages considered exceptional, La Grande Année combines the depth of Pinot Noir, the precision of Chardonnay and the unique signature of full vinification in oak barrels.

Presented in magnum 1.5 L with its original Bollinger precious wood presentation case, this bottle indicates a disgorgement date of June 2017. This is an important reference for a great vintage Champagne: it confirms a long period of ageing on lees before release and helps place its current aromatic evolution between freshness, pastry-like complexity, toasted notes and delicate maturity.

Terroir: Grands Crus, Premiers Crus and the Bollinger signature

La Grande Année 2007 is made from a blend of 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay, sourced from 14 crus, with a strong proportion of Grand Cru vineyards. Pinot Noir, notably from great terroirs such as Aÿ and Verzenay, brings structure, power and vinous depth, while Chardonnay, notably from Avize, Cramant and Oger, contributes tension, brightness and chalky finesse.

True to the Bollinger style, this cuvée is made exclusively from the cuvée, the purest juice from the first pressing, and is entirely vinified in oak barrels. This traditional method brings texture, complexity, toasted nuances and strong ageing capacity, while preserving the freshness and energy of the vintage.

Tasting notes

Appearance: deep gold with bright golden reflections, luminous and brilliant, with fine, creamy and regular bubbles. The magnum format helps preserve the wine’s brightness, freshness and tension over time.

Nose: complex and expressive, with fresh almond, hazelnut, peach, mango, candied lemon, pink grapefruit, roasted apple, toast, brioche, honey, sweet spices and a lightly smoky touch. With aeration, nuances of walnut, almond paste, chalk, dried fruits and fine pastry may appear.

Palate: broad, vinous and structured, with deep substance, creamy bubbles and fine chalky tension. The wine combines candied citrus, yellow fruits, honey, almond, toasted notes and delicate salinity, leading to a long, fresh, gastronomic and subtly spicy finish.

Expert review

95/100 — Decanter World Wine Awards

Decanter World Wine Awards highlights what the magnum format can bring to Bollinger La Grande Année 2007, with complex candied fruits, notes of vineyard peach and dried apricot, as well as significant remaining potential. Wine Advocate also awarded it 94+/100, describing a powerful, concentrated and precise Champagne marked by lemon, candied citrus, almond paste, iodine, walnut oil, fresh bread and a chalky finish. Jeb Dunnuck also gave it 94/100, praising a rich, creamy, pure and highly elegant Champagne.

Expression of the 2007 vintage and the value of magnum

The 2007 vintage, marked by an early season followed by a cooler end to ripening, gives La Grande Année a vivid, gastronomic expression that is very representative of the Bollinger style. The June 2017 disgorgement indicates long ageing on lees, enhancing the wine’s aromatic complexity and texture. In magnum, evolution is slower than in a standard bottle, increasing both its cellaring interest and collector appeal, especially with its precious wood presentation case.

In summary: a Bollinger La Grande Année 2007 in magnum, presented with its original precious wood case, disgorged in June 2017, marked by the depth of Pinot Noir, the precision of Chardonnay, creamy bubbles, notes of almond, candied citrus, brioche, honey, spice and a strong gastronomic dimension.

Food pairings: foie gras, lobster, langoustines, turbot, sole meunière, Bresse chicken with cream, sweetbreads, roast veal, delicate lamb, Parmesan, aged Comté, mushrooms, white truffle or gastronomic cuisine with lightly toasted notes.
