This Échézeaux Grand Cru 2023 comes from Domaine Berthaut‑Gerbet, a domaine in Fixin now guided by Amélie Berthaut and Nicolas Faure who emphasize terroir transparency and fine balance. The domaine is known for blending Burgundian tradition with low‑intervention methods, reducing new oak usage and favoring expressive, site‑driven wines. This Grand Cru bottling is sourced from a select parcel, and is made to deliver both power and elegance, speaking clearly of its terroir.
Nose: Aromas begin with black cherry, dark plum, cassis, and kirsch, joined by floral violet and rose notes. With aeration, undergrowth, forest floor, graphite, truffle touch, and spice (clove, nutmeg) emerge. Oak influence is subtle: smoke, sandalwood, faint vanilla in the background.
Palate: Full‑bodied but with poise, built around a concentrated core of dark fruit. Tannins are firm, fine, and structured, offering backbone without harshness. A vivid acidity courses through the mid‑palate, lending freshness and lift. A strong mineral vein (wet stone, crushed rock, iron) defines the frame. Oak remains in support, giving toast, spice, and warmth without overshadowing. The finish is long, persistent, refined — showing complexity, energy, and promise for long maturation.
