Corton Grand Cru 2009 — Domaine Bouchard Père & Fils

This Corton Grand Cru 2009 from Domaine Bouchard Père & Fils, offered here in magnum 1.5 L, embodies a noble, profound and structured expression of one of the great red terroirs of the Côte de Beaune. Corton gives Pinot Noir of character, often marked by powerful architecture, earthy depth and great ageing capacity. In the 2009 vintage, solar, ripe and generous, the wine unfolds a broad and complex palette: black cherry, Morello cherry, ripe raspberry, red plum, discreet cassis, faded rose, violet, fine spices, liquorice, black tea, noble earth, forest floor, fine leather and a long mineral finish.

Bouchard Père & Fils is among Burgundy’s most respected historic houses, renowned for its heritage of great terroirs and for wines combining depth, precision and longevity. This Corton Grand Cru offers a classical and distinguished reading of the hill of Corton, with the richness of the 2009 vintage, ripe tannins and an evolution already moving towards noble tertiary nuances. The magnum format encourages slower maturation, better preservation of freshness and a particularly sought-after collector dimension.

The spirit of the wine

A great Corton of structure, depth and nobility, where the generosity of the 2009 vintage remains carried by the measured power of the Grand Cru and the mineral freshness of the hill of Corton. The wine combines ripe red and black fruits, faded flowers, spices, liquorice, black tea, noble earth and forest floor, with a broad, silky, dense and persistent palate. The magnum format reinforces its ageing potential, balance and collector character.

Terroir: Corton, limestone power and Côte de Beaune depth

The hill of Corton is among the most emblematic terroirs of the Côte de Beaune. Its clay-limestone, marly and stony soils give Pinot Noir a structured, profound and mineral expression, often more powerful and more architectural than in many other parts of the region. The Grand Cru is distinguished by its ability to combine density, freshness and longevity.

At Bouchard Père & Fils, Corton translates into a wine of great poise, where substance remains balanced by freshness and terroir precision. In 2009, vintage ripeness reinforces fruit, volume and velvet, while the natural structure of the cru preserves tension, depth and persistence. With time, the expression gains forest floor, fine leather, spices and mineral complexity.

Terroir expression: Pinot Noir, Corton, Côte de Beaune, Grand Cru, clay, limestone, marl, black cherry, Morello cherry, ripe raspberry, red plum, faded rose, fine spices, noble earth and persistent minerality.

Bouchard Père & Fils signature: Burgundian classicism, depth, structure, fruit precision, ripe tannins, balance, longevity and long persistence.

Tasting notes

Appearance: deep ruby evolving towards garnet, with slightly brick-toned reflections depending on storage, bright, dense and still well sustained. In magnum, evolution is generally slower, allowing the wine to preserve brilliance, depth and visual freshness for many years.

Nose: deep, ripe and complex, with black cherry, Morello cherry, ripe raspberry, red plum, discreet cassis, time-polished red and black fruits, faded rose, violet, fine spices, liquorice and black tea. With aeration, nuances of forest floor, noble earth, fine leather, cocoa, bark, sweet pepper, light truffle and limestone minerality may appear.

Palate: broad, dense, silky and structured, with ripe fruit now polished by evolution. Flavours of black cherry, Morello cherry, raspberry, red plum, spices, liquorice, black tea, fine earth, leather and forest floor unfold with depth, supported by ripe, polished and persistent tannins. The finish is long, mineral, lightly saline and spicy, with an impression of noble maturity, controlled power and great Burgundian persistence.

Aromatic profile

Fruit: black cherry, Morello cherry, ripe raspberry, red plum, discreet cassis, time-polished red and black fruits.

Flowers and spices: faded rose, violet, fine spices, sweet pepper, liquorice, black tea, deep Côte de Beaune perfume.

Evolution and terroir: noble earth, forest floor, fine leather, cocoa, bark, light truffle, limestone minerality, polished tannins.

Overall impression: profound, structured and refined Corton Grand Cru, with ripe fruit, silky texture and a long mineral finish.

Expression of the 2009 vintage

The 2009 vintage in Burgundy produced red wines that are ripe, generous and seductive, marked by fine fruit richness, velvety textures and relatively early accessibility. In structured Grands Crus such as Corton, this ripeness combines with the natural depth of the terroir, allowing the wine to gain tertiary complexity and balance with time.

Today, this Corton Grand Cru 2009 in magnum is entering a very interesting phase of maturity, where the vintage’s fruit richness begins to merge with notes of forest floor, fine leather, truffle, black tea, cocoa, melted spices, noble earth and mineral nuances. Measured aeration allows its depth to be revealed while preserving its balance and freshness.

In summary: a deep, ripe and refined Corton Grand Cru 2009 in magnum, driven by the generosity of the vintage, the structure of the hill of Corton and the classical signature of Bouchard Père & Fils.

Dominant aromas: black cherry, Morello cherry, ripe raspberry, red plum, faded rose, violet, fine spices, liquorice, black tea, noble earth, forest floor, fine leather, light truffle and a long mineral finish.
