Corton Rognet Grand Cru 2010 — Domaine Taupenot-Merme
This Corton Rognet Grand Cru 2010 from Domaine Taupenot-Merme, offered here in magnum 1.5 L, embodies one of the deepest, most structured and noble expressions of the hill of Corton. A major Grand Cru of the Côte de Beaune, Corton Rognet gives Pinot Noir of power, relief and great persistence, here driven by the precision and freshness of the 2010 vintage: black cherry, Morello cherry, raspberry, cassis, plum, faded rose, violet, fine spices, liquorice, noble earth, forest floor, fine leather, black tea and a long mineral finish.
Domaine Taupenot-Merme is renowned for precise, elegant wines that remain faithful to the terroirs of the Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune, with an approach focused on fruit purity, balance and tannic finesse. Corton Rognet is among the most serious and structured climats of Corton, capable of producing powerful, deep wines built for ageing. The 2010 vintage brings freshness, tension, aromatic precision and remarkable terroir definition, while the magnum format encourages slow and harmonious evolution.
A great Corton of structure and depth, where the natural power of the Rognet cru remains carried by the freshness and precision of the 2010 vintage. The wine combines red and black fruits, faded flowers, spices, liquorice, noble earth, forest floor and minerality, with a broad, silky, firm and persistent palate. The magnum format reinforces its ageing dimension, relative freshness and collector character.
Terroir: Corton Rognet, power and minerality from the hill of Corton
The Corton Rognet climat lies on the famous hill of Corton, the major red Grand Cru of the Côte de Beaune. Its clay-limestone soils, marls and stony elements give Pinot Noir a broad, structured and profoundly mineral expression. The cru is distinguished by its density, contained power, earthy character and capacity to evolve slowly.
At Domaine Taupenot-Merme, Corton Rognet translates into a wine of great presence, at once firm, precise and elegant. The terroir brings a serious tannic frame, aromatic depth and a persistent mineral finish. In 2010, the freshness of the vintage highlights fruit purity, the wine’s tension and the clarity of the climat, giving a Grand Cru that is more distinguished than demonstrative.
Terroir expression: Pinot Noir, Corton Rognet, Côte de Beaune, clay, limestone, marl, black cherry, Morello cherry, raspberry, cassis, plum, faded rose, fine spices, noble earth and persistent minerality.
Taupenot-Merme signature: fruit purity, classical elegance, measured extraction, fine tannins, respect for terroir, balance, freshness and long persistence.
Tasting notes
Appearance: deep ruby slowly evolving towards garnet, bright, dense and still well sustained. In magnum, evolution remains slower, with the colour preserving more brilliance, depth and presence than in a standard bottle.
Nose: deep, pure and progressively complex, with black cherry, Morello cherry, raspberry, cassis, plum, red and black fruits, faded rose, violet, fine spices, liquorice and noble earth. With aeration, nuances of forest floor, fine leather, black tea, cocoa, sweet pepper, fallen leaves, light truffle and limestone minerality may appear.
Palate: broad, dense, silky and still structured, with precise fruit carried by fine freshness. Flavours of black cherry, Morello cherry, raspberry, cassis, plum, spices, liquorice, fine earth, forest floor and leather unfold with depth, supported by firm yet elegant tannins. The finish is long, mineral, lightly saline and spicy, with an impression of controlled power, nobility and great Burgundian persistence.
Fruit: black cherry, Morello cherry, raspberry, cassis, plum, red and black fruits, deep berries.
Flowers and spices: faded rose, violet, fine spices, sweet pepper, liquorice, black tea, deep Corton perfume.
Evolution and terroir: noble earth, forest floor, fine leather, cocoa, fallen leaves, light truffle, limestone minerality, elegant tannins.
Overall impression: deep, structured and complex Grand Cru, with silky texture, clear freshness and a long mineral finish.
Expression of the 2010 vintage
The 2010 vintage in Burgundy produced red wines that are fresh, precise, taut and often remarkably balanced, with great fruit purity and a structure built for ageing. In structured great terroirs such as Corton Rognet, this year particularly highlights the nobility of Pinot Noir, tannic finesse, mineral tension and aromatic length.
Today, this Corton Rognet Grand Cru 2010 in magnum remains youthful in its evolution and has very fine ageing potential. It can already reveal its depth after measured aeration, but will gain further complexity with time: forest floor, fine leather, truffle, black tea, cocoa, melted spices, noble earth and mineral nuances should gradually join the purity of red and black fruit.
In summary: a deep, precise and structured Corton Rognet Grand Cru 2010 in magnum, driven by the freshness of the vintage, the power of the climat and the elegant signature of Domaine Taupenot-Merme.
Dominant aromas: black cherry, Morello cherry, raspberry, cassis, plum, faded rose, violet, fine spices, liquorice, noble earth, forest floor, fine leather, black tea, light truffle and a long mineral finish.
