Domaine Jamet — The Pure, Granitic Expression of Côte-Rôtie

A true pillar of Côte-Rôtie, Domaine Jamet has embodied for several decades the noblest and purest essence of northern Rhône Syrah. Based on the hillsides above Ampuis, at the heart of the appellation, the domaine has become a world reference thanks to a classical, artisanal and timeless vision of wine.

Jean-Paul Jamet, a respected figure of the Rhône Valley, built this reputation with patience, precision and exacting standards. Today, this identity is beautifully continued by his son Loïc Jamet, preserving a style that favours transparency, freshness and finesse over concentration or overt oak influence.

The spirit of the estate

An absolute reference of the northern Rhône, where Syrah is expressed with purity, elegance and mineral depth. Domaine Jamet embodies an artisanal, classical and vibrant Côte-Rôtie, shaped by granitic and schistous terroirs, whole-cluster vinification and long ageing in old barrels that respect the fruit.

Terroir: the schist and granitic gneiss of Côte-Rôtie

The domaine works around twenty parcels spread across the steep terraces in the northern part of the appellation, between the Côte Brune and the Côte Blonde. This mosaic of lieux-dits allows the estate to craft wines of great complexity, with each origin contributing its own nuance of structure, perfume and tension.

The vines root deeply into ancient soils of schist and granitic gneiss. These slopes, among the steepest in the region, are cultivated entirely by hand, as mechanisation is impossible. The viticulture is thoughtful and respectful, aiming to preserve natural balance and express the full purity of the terroir.

Terroir expression: Côte-Rôtie, Côte Brune, Côte Blonde, schist, granitic gneiss, steep terraces, Syrah, violet, white pepper, black olive and pure minerality.

Jamet signature: precision, elegance, transparency, whole clusters, old barrels, vibrant freshness, silky texture and great longevity.

Vinification and ageing

Harvesting is carried out by hand, with rigorous sorting in the vineyard. The grapes are vinified as whole clusters, without destemming, in order to preserve freshness, structure and the natural energy of the fruit.

Fermentations are long and natural, with no added yeasts, enhancing aromatic complexity and textural finesse. Ageing lasts 18 to 24 months in old barrels, avoiding any excessive oak imprint. The domaine’s objective is clear: to accompany the wine, never to shape it artificially.

Aromatic profile

Fruit: blackberry, cassis, black cherry, dark raspberry, fresh black fruits and juicy pulp.

Flowers and spices: violet, peony, white pepper, fine spices, liquorice, light thyme and smoky notes.

Terroir expression: black olive, graphite, cold stone, schist, gneiss, granitic freshness and mineral length.

Overall impression: a luminous, refined and long-lined Syrah, driven by finesse, tension, freshness and great aromatic depth.

Wine style

The wines of Domaine Jamet stand out for their precision, elegance and transparency. The nose reveals aromas of violet, white pepper, black olive, fresh black fruits and fine spices, typical of the great schist and gneiss terroirs of Côte-Rôtie.

On the palate, Syrah is silky, energetic and long-lined, supported by vibrant freshness and a mineral frame of great purity. These luminous and refined wines can age for 15 to 25 years depending on the vintage, while preserving their aromatic brightness and timeless elegance.

Emblematic cuvées

Côte-Rôtie: a blend of several lieux-dits, the domaine’s signature cuvée and a masterful alliance of finesse, balance, depth and longevity.

Côte-Rôtie “Fructus Voluptas”: a more immediate and juicy expression of fruit, with remarkable aromatic brightness and great drinkability.

Côte Brune: a rare micro-cuvée of deep mineral intensity and noble wildness, built for ageing.

Côtes-du-Rhône: a frank, digestible and generous wine, marked by fruit purity and the freshness of the Jamet style.

IGP Syrah “Collines Rhodaniennes”: a floral, upright and accessible expression, a perfect introduction to the domaine’s universe.

Service, pairings and ageing potential

Domaine Jamet Côte-Rôtie wines have remarkable ageing potential, often 15 to 25 years depending on the vintage. Young bottles may benefit from measured aeration, while more mature vintages require delicate service in order to preserve their floral finesse and mineral tension.

Their elegance pairs beautifully with roast pigeon, lamb, duck, fine game, dry-aged meats, reduced jus, noble mushrooms, truffle, herb-based dishes and delicately spiced cuisine.
