Tua Rita — The Tuscan icon of Suvereto

Founded in 1984 by Rita Tua and Virgilio Bisti, Tua Rita has become, within just a few decades, one of the most emblematic estates of contemporary Tuscany. Located in Suvereto, in the Alta Maremma, the estate has built its reputation on deep, precise and intensely Mediterranean wines.

The estate is now closely associated with the finest Super Tuscans, particularly through Redigaffi, the cult Merlot that brought Tua Rita international recognition. Guided by the family, with Stefano Frascolla, Simena Bisti, Giovanni Frascolla, Marco Lamastra and the historic support of Luca D’Attoma, the estate combines artisanal precision, a sensitive reading of terroir and a style of remarkable intensity.

The spirit of the estate

Tua Rita embodies a solar, ambitious and perfectly controlled vision of Tuscany. The wines seek density without heaviness, expressive fruit without excess, and a sense of balance that allows the great cuvées to age with confidence.

History

Tua Rita began as a modest family property, acquired by Rita Tua and Virgilio Bisti with an agricultural vocation. The exceptional potential of the Suvereto vineyards soon led the couple to develop an ambitious wine production. The first Giusto di Notri was released in the early 1990s, before Redigaffi became one of the most sought-after Italian wines in the world.

Terroir

The vineyards are located around Suvereto, in an area of low hills influenced by the Tyrrhenian Sea. The clay-rich, stony soils, with notable mineral components including iron, give the wines depth, natural ripeness and a distinctive Mediterranean signature. This maritime influence also helps preserve balance in warmer vintages.

Viticulture and winemaking

The estate works with meticulous attention to yields, grape maturity and parcel selection. Harvesting is carried out with great care, while vinification is adapted to each cuvée in order to preserve fruit purity, texture and the identity of place. Ageing takes place mainly in French oak, with amphorae used for certain wines, always in search of balance rather than stylistic excess.

Wine style

Tua Rita wines are defined by their natural concentration, silky texture and generous aromatic expression. Merlot gives rise to cuvées of great depth, Cabernet Sauvignon brings structure to the blends, while Syrah and Sangiovese add spice, energy and Tuscan identity. The finest bottles combine richness, length and impressive cellaring potential.

Emblematic cuvées

The estate’s most famous wine is Redigaffi, a great Tuscan Merlot and a true cult wine. Giusto di Notri expresses a Bordeaux-inspired vision of Suvereto, broad and structured. Per Sempre highlights a deep, spicy Syrah, while Keir explores a more refined approach through amphora ageing. Perlato del Bosco, Rosso dei Notri and the estate’s white wines complete a coherent range, offering different levels of discovery.

Cellaring and food pairings

The great cuvées of Tua Rita have excellent ageing potential, especially Redigaffi, Giusto di Notri and Per Sempre. They pair beautifully with grilled red meats, aged beef, roast lamb, truffle dishes, reduced sauces, feathered game and mature cheeses. With time in bottle, the wines gain nuance, revealing notes of fine leather, spice, blond tobacco and cocoa.
