Clante S.G.D.V. 2015 – Il Borghetto

A selection of old vines revealing the depth and structure of Montefidolfi Sangiovese

Terroir

Clante S.G.D.V. comes from the hillside vineyards of Montefidolfi, in the heart of the historic Chianti Classico zone between Florence and Siena. The vines are planted at moderate altitude, allowing for slow and balanced ripening, enhanced by significant day–night temperature variations. The soils are dominated by galestro (friable schist) and alberese (hard limestone), two emblematic formations of central Tuscany that provide structure, freshness, and strong ageing potential. The S.G.D.V. designation refers to a selection from old vines, naturally lower yielding and more expressive, reserved for the estate’s most concentrated cuvées.

Tasting Notes

Nose / Aromas:
The nose is deep and complex, offering aromas of black cherry, ripe plum, and concentrated red fruit. With aeration, notes of violet, tobacco, fine leather, as well as hints of Mediterranean herbs and sweet spices emerge. The profile is precise and layered.

Palate / Structure:
On the palate, the wine is ample and structured, supported by dense yet finely integrated tannins. Dark fruit concentration is balanced by a natural acidity that brings freshness and length. The texture is compact, focused, and highly controlled, highlighting the nobility of old-vine Sangiovese.

Finish:
The finish is long and persistent, marked by notes of warm stone, liquorice, and a subtle saline touch. It confirms both the wine’s ageing potential and its deep connection to the limestone terroirs of Montefidolfi.
