Littorai – Hirsch Vineyard Pinot Noir 2021

A benchmark Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir from the iconic Hirsch Vineyard, combining coastal tension, aromatic purity and refined structure.

Terroir & vineyard

The Hirsch Vineyard, located on the remote Sonoma Coast near Fort Ross, is one of California’s most celebrated cool-climate sites for Pinot Noir. Planted on rugged ridges overlooking the Pacific Ocean, the vineyard is exposed to strong maritime influences, including fog, wind and cool temperatures, which extend the growing season and preserve acidity.

The soils are diverse and complex, including weathered sandstone, shale and marine-derived sediments. These well-drained, low-fertility soils contribute to low yields and grapes with concentration, aromatic precision and a distinctive mineral tension.

At Littorai, farming is conducted using biodynamic principles, and winemaking emphasizes minimal intervention to preserve site expression. Fermentation with indigenous yeasts and aging in French oak barrels—typically with a restrained proportion of new oak—aim to highlight purity, texture and balance.

Tasting notes

Nose:
Aromatically complex, with wild strawberry, red cherry and cranberry, layered with rose petal, forest floor, spice and subtle ocean-influenced freshness.

Palate:
Elegant and finely structured, with silky tannins and vibrant acidity. Red fruit flavors are complemented by savory notes, mineral tension and a delicate hint of coastal salinity.

Finish:
Long, precise and lifted, marked by freshness, fine spice and lingering red fruit. A Pinot Noir of finesse and depth with excellent aging potential.
