Château d’Yquem 1947 — Sauternes

This Château d’Yquem 1947 embodies one of the most legendary expressions of Bordeaux’s great sweet wines. As the sole Premier Cru Supérieur of Sauternes, Yquem occupies a unique place through its extraordinary ability to combine richness, freshness, aromatic complexity and exceptional longevity.

The 1947 vintage, solar, rare and mythical, now offers the profile of a great mature wine: candied apricot, orange marmalade, fig, date, quince, candied exotic fruits, deep honey, saffron, beeswax, fine caramel, sweet spices, tea, blond tobacco, dried fruits, orange peel and a long, noble, enveloping and persistent finish.

The spirit of the wine

A collector’s Yquem, deeply mature, sumptuous and contemplative. The richness of the 1947 vintage is expressed through a broad, time-polished and intensely complex texture, yet Yquem’s balance allows the wine to retain a rare sense of grace, freshness and aromatic nobility after several decades of evolution.

Terroir: Sauternes, noble rot and the grandeur of Yquem

Château d’Yquem benefits from an exceptional terroir, where gravel, clay and limestone soils encourage slow ripening, great concentration and the development of noble rot. This singularity gives birth to sweet wines of incomparable depth, capable of crossing time while developing a unique aromatic complexity, between candied fruits, spices, honey, wax, citrus and noble tertiary notes.

Tasting notes

Expression of the 1947 vintage

The 1947 vintage is one of Bordeaux’s mythical years, marked by exceptional richness and wines of remarkable concentration. At Yquem, this opulence takes on an almost timeless dimension, carried by the power of noble rot, the depth of the terroir and the estate’s distinctive balance. A bottle of this age must be opened with extreme care, taking its condition and provenance into account.

In summary: a legendary, rare and profoundly mature Château d’Yquem 1947, driven by the richness of the vintage, the grandeur of Sauternes and the exceptional longevity of this Premier Cru Supérieur.

Food pairing: foie gras, candied-fruit desserts, tarte Tatin, crème brûlée, blue cheeses, aged Comté, refined spicy cuisine or contemplative tasting at the end of a meal.
