Château Figeac 2004 — Saint-Émilion

This Château Figeac 2004 embodies a mature, refined and deeply classical expression of Saint-Émilion. A historic estate located on the gravel soils of the Right Bank, Figeac is distinguished by a singular style, often more slender, fresher and more Cabernet-driven than many great wines of the appellation.

After two decades of evolution, the 2004 vintage reveals an elegant and nuanced profile: cassis, blackberry, black cherry, plum, cedar, graphite, blond tobacco, violet, fine spices, delicate leather, forest floor, fresh earth and a precise mineral finish. Today, the wine favours balance, finesse and evolved complexity rather than immediate power.

The spirit of the wine

A mature, fine and distinguished Saint-Émilion, where the Figeac signature is expressed through freshness, poise and great aromatic nobility. The wine combines time-polished black fruit, floral notes, cedar, graphite, tobacco, fine leather and forest floor, with an elegant, velvety and persistent palate.

Terroir: Saint-Émilion gravel and Figeac’s singular identity

Château Figeac rests on gravel terroirs that are particularly rare in Saint-Émilion, encouraging a strong presence of Cabernet in the blend. This identity gives wines that are less opulent than some Merlot-dominant Saint-Émilions, but often fresher, more structured, more spicy and endowed with excellent ageing capacity.

Tasting notes

Appearance: deep garnet, evolving towards slightly brick-toned reflections depending on storage, with fine brightness in well-preserved bottles.

Nose: elegant and evolved, with cassis, blackberry, black cherry, plum, cedar, graphite, blond tobacco, violet, fine spices, delicate leather, forest floor and fresh earth.

Palate: supple, fresh and harmonious, with melted tannins, elegant substance and a long, lightly spicy and mineral finish. A wine to open with care, avoiding excessive aeration in order to preserve its evolved finesse.

Aromatic profile

Fruit: cassis, blackberry, black cherry, plum, time-polished black fruits.

Evolution: cedar, blond tobacco, fine leather, forest floor, sweet spices.

Terroir: graphite, violet, fresh earth, mineral notes and a classical Right Bank finish.

Expression of the 2004 vintage

The 2004 vintage in Bordeaux now offers wines of classical style, often sought for their freshness, balance and harmonious evolution. At Figeac, this year highlights the estate’s finesse, tension and Cabernet-driven dimension, with a mature, subtle and elegant profile.

In summary: a mature, elegant and deeply classical Château Figeac 2004, driven by the freshness of gravel soils, the nobility of the Cabernets and the singular signature of this great Saint-Émilion.

Food pairing: rack of lamb, beef fillet, roast veal, poultry with mushrooms, duck, truffle-based cuisine, mature cheeses or classical Right Bank Bordeaux dishes.
