Sourced from Oakville, it combines the natural richness of Californian Cabernet Sauvignon with a more restrained, precise and architectural interpretation, in a style focused on balance, texture and ageing potential.
Terroir: Oakville, Californian depth and Bordeaux precision
Located in Oakville, in the heart of Napa Valley, the Ulysses vineyard benefits from an ideal terroir for Cabernet Sauvignon: sunny ripeness, natural drainage, fruit intensity and a tannic structure of great presence. Yet the wine stands apart through a more measured than demonstrative approach, with a clear pursuit of harmony, freshness and definition.
The 2016 vintage is particularly accomplished in Napa Valley. Here, it gives a dense yet perfectly balanced wine, driven by pure dark fruit, refined tannins, fine freshness and a long finish marked by graphite, cedar and noble spices.
Tasting notes
Appearance: deep purple with garnet reflections, dense, brilliant and still very sustained.
Nose: intense and refined, with cassis, blackberry, black cherry, dark plum, graphite, cedar, blond tobacco and sweet spices. With aeration, nuances of cocoa, liquorice, violet and fine earth appear with elegance.
Palate: ample, upright and beautifully defined, with deep dark fruit, polished tannins and freshness that brings remarkable structure. The finish is long, precise and lightly spicy, marked by graphite, cedar and a sensation of contained power.
Aromatic profile
Fruit: cassis, blackberry, black cherry, dark plum, ripe dark fruits.
Spices and ageing: cedar, blond tobacco, cocoa, liquorice, sweet spices.
Terroir: graphite, fine earth, violet, Oakville freshness, polished tannins and a long finish.
