Domaine Cassagne et Vitailles – Clas Mani 2020
A powerful yet refined Terrasses du Larzac red, combining Mediterranean depth, limestone freshness, and finely sculpted tannins, born from high-altitude vineyards shaped by wind and stone.
Terroir & Parcels
The Clas Mani cuvée originates from hillside parcels in the Terrasses du Larzac, northwest of Montpellier, where vineyards lie between Mediterranean influences and the cooling winds descending from the Larzac plateau. Soils are composed of limestone scree, red clays, and stony terraces, providing excellent drainage and promoting deep root systems. These conditions yield wines of concentration balanced by fresh acidity and a distinctive mineral tension.
The blend typically includes classic southern varieties such as Syrah, Grenache, and Mourvèdre, sometimes complemented by Carignan depending on the vintage. Vines are farmed organically, harvested by hand, and vinified with indigenous yeasts. Gentle extraction and aging in large oak vessels or neutral barrels preserve fruit purity while allowing the tannic structure to refine.
Tasting Notes
Nose:
Deep and expressive, revealing blackberry, black plum, and black cherry, layered with notes of garrigue, black pepper, cocoa, and a subtle smoky nuance.
Palate:
Full-bodied yet balanced, with ripe tannins and a vibrant backbone. Dark fruit flavors intertwine with sweet spices, licorice, and crushed stone minerality, creating both power and precision.
Finish:
Long and structured, marked by savory herbs, dark chocolate, and a lingering mineral freshness. A cellar-worthy wine that will evolve beautifully over the next decade.
