Terrasses du Larzac 2018 – Domaine de Montcalmès
A benchmark wine of the Languedoc, combining altitude freshness, depth, and Mediterranean elegance
Terroir
Domaine de Montcalmès lies at the heart of the Terrasses du Larzac appellation, in a preserved environment influenced by both Mediterranean and continental climates. The vineyards are planted on hillside plots resting on hard limestone, scree, and clay soils, at elevations ranging from 350 to 400 meters. Significant day-to-night temperature variations promote slow, even ripening, preserving freshness, balance, and aromatic complexity — the hallmark of great Larzac wines.
Tasting Notes
Nose / Aromatics:
The nose is deep and refined, revealing aromas of ripe dark fruits, black cherry, and blackcurrant, complemented by garrigue notes, sweet spices, hints of licorice, and subtle mineral tones.
Palate / Structure:
The palate is ample, balanced, and remarkably precise, supported by fine, perfectly integrated tannins. The natural freshness of the vintage lifts the fruit and provides tension and length, while the structure remains elegant and seamlessly controlled.
Finish:
The finish is long and persistent, marked by dark fruit, spice, and a chalky mineral backbone, revealing the full nobility and depth of a great Terrasses du Larzac wine.
