Gigondas Terrasse du Diable 2016 — Domaine Les Pallières
This Gigondas Terrasse du Diable 2016 from Domaine Les Pallières is a deep, fresh and mineral expression of the appellation. Dominated by Grenache, this cuvée combines ripe red and dark fruits, floral lift, spice, garrigue and limestone tension, in a 2016 vintage of remarkable balance in the southern Rhône.
Terroir: high terraces and limestone freshness
Terrasse du Diable comes from parcels located on the higher slopes of Gigondas, where limestone soils and altitude bring a more tense, floral and mineral expression to the wine. This cuvée stands out for its balance between southern ripeness and structural freshness, with a more lifted profile than the appellation’s most powerful expressions.
The 2016 vintage reinforces this harmony: the fruit is ripe, the frame remains precise, the tannins are fine and the finish retains fine energy. The wine already offers a highly attractive expression today, while still holding ageing potential thanks to its freshness, structure and mineral depth.
Tasting notes
Appearance: deep ruby red with purple and dark garnet reflections, brilliant, dense and still very vivid, showing fine colour intensity.
Nose: expressive and refined, with raspberry, black cherry, blackberry, white flowers, violet, pepper, Asian spices, garrigue and limestone minerality. With aeration, nuances of liquorice, wild herbs, warm stone, concentrated red fruits and Mediterranean undergrowth may appear.
Palate: ample, pure and harmonious, with a silky texture, very fine tannins and beautiful aromatic continuity. The wine combines depth, freshness and elegance, with a long, spicy, floral and finely mineral finish.

His review highlights a Grenache-dominant blend, complemented by Mourvèdre and Cinsault, with aromas of raspberry, limestone minerality, white flowers, pepper and Asian spices. The palate is full-bodied, pure, harmonious and without hardness, supported by ultra-fine tannins, remarkable balance and a great finish. A high-level Gigondas, praised for its precision and elegance.
Expression of the 2016 vintage
The 2016 vintage gives this Gigondas Terrasse du Diable a particularly complete expression: ripe fruit, natural freshness, elegant tannins and fine aromatic precision. More refined than demonstrative, it impresses through purity, balance and mineral dimension. It can be enjoyed today after gradual aeration, or cellared for several more years to gain further complexity around garrigue, spices, fine leather and undergrowth notes.
In summary: an elegant and profound Gigondas Terrasse du Diable 2016, awarded 95 points by Jeb Dunnuck, marked by Grenache purity, limestone minerality, very fine tannins and a long, fresh and spicy finish.
Food pairings: roast lamb with herbs, veal chop with morels, roast duck, pigeon, farm poultry with sweet spices, Provençal beef stew, confit vegetables, garrigue-inspired cuisine or mature hard cheeses.
