Marsannay “Clos du Roy” 2014 – Domaine Bizot
From one of Marsannay’s most reputed climats, this Pinot Noir from Domaine Bizot reveals a style that is both deep and energetic, combining intensity of fruit, floral finesse and a structure built for aging.
Terroir & parcels
Located in the Marsannay appellation, at the northern end of the Côte de Nuits, the Clos du Roy climat is one of the most sought-after sites in the village. Marsannay, often considered the gateway to the Côte de Nuits, produces wines stylistically close to Fixin and Gevrey-Chambertin, combining structure, intensity and pure fruit expression.
The vineyards benefit from slopes with east to south exposure, at altitudes ranging from approximately 255 to 390 meters, on soils derived from Middle Jurassic limestone and marl. Clos du Roy typically delivers more structured and age-worthy wines, with a firm mineral backbone and greater depth than most wines from the appellation.
The 2014 vintage highlights a classic Burgundian balance, combining freshness, clarity of fruit and tension. At Domaine Bizot, this results in a particularly refined and expressive interpretation of the terroir, with notable depth and precision.
Tasting notes
Nose:
Intense and highly expressive, with aromas of raspberry, red cherry and dark berries, complemented by spicy, floral and subtly oaky nuances. The bouquet gains complexity with aeration, showing remarkable finesse for Marsannay.
Palate:
Dense, energetic and precise, with a serious yet balanced structure. Red and dark fruits unfold with clarity, supported by fresh acidity, fine tannins and a straight, focused profile. The wine combines intensity, elegance and depth with great control.
Finish:
Long, fresh and structured, marked by lingering fruit, gentle spice and a subtle mineral backbone. A characterful Marsannay, already appealing yet clearly capable of graceful aging.
