Auxey-Duresses Les Hautés 2023 — Domaine Jean-Marc Vincent
Domaine Jean-Marc Vincent Auxey-Duresses Les Hautés 2023 is one of the most compelling white wines from this still discreet Côte de Beaune appellation. Made from Chardonnay, it combines the natural generosity of the 2023 vintage with a stony freshness, refined substance and a level of precision that brings it close in spirit to the great white wines of neighbouring Meursault.
Anne-Marie and Jean-Marc Vincent deliver here an Auxey-Duresses blanc of remarkable expression, at once ample, saline and luminous. The wine stands out for its ripe white fruit, floral nuances, satin-textured palate and lively finish, supported by the limestone marls of the Les Hautés lieu-dit.
Terroir
Les Hautés is a particularly interesting sector for white wines in Auxey-Duresses, situated in a part of the Côte de Beaune where the influence of Meursault is clearly felt. The vines, around 20 to 55 years old, are rooted in limestone marls that bring density, structure and mineral length to the wine. Ageing for at least 15 months preserves the purity of Chardonnay while giving the palate greater depth and a more enveloping texture.
Tasting notes
Appearance: bright pale yellow, with light green reflections that underline the wine’s youth and brilliance.
Nose: aromas of pear, white peach, ripe citrus, white flowers and light honey, followed by nuances of hazelnut, wet stone, fresh almond and discreet oak.
Palate: ample, satin-textured and precise, driven by a luminous core of fruit, refined acidity and a saline finish. The wine combines concentration, freshness and elegance, with remarkable persistence for the appellation.
Expert reviews
95/100 – Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy: a very high score for this white Auxey-Duresses, praised for its intensity, refined texture, concentration and balance between white fruit, yellow fruit, acidity and mineral expression.
94/100 – William Kelley, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate: the critic describes a superb wine, marked by pear, white flowers, light honey and hazelnut, with a satiny, deep and fresh palate, lively acids and a saline finish.
Expression of the vintage
The 2023 vintage gives this Chardonnay generous ripeness without losing the energy that defines the finest white wines of the Côte de Beaune. White and yellow fruits unfold with intensity, while the limestone frame preserves freshness and a taut finish. Already attractive for its brightness and texture, this wine will gain further complexity after a few years in the cellar.
In summary: a remarkable white Auxey-Duresses, rated 95/100 by Jasper Morris and 94/100 by Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate. A Chardonnay of real class, dense, saline and vibrant, clearly exceeding the traditional expectations of its appellation.
Food pairings: poultry in cream sauce, seared scallops, turbot with beurre blanc, mushroom risotto, lobster, aged pressed cheeses or refined dishes built around hazelnut and citrus.
