Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru 2019 — Domaine Taupenot-Merme
This Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru 2019 from Domaine Taupenot-Merme, offered here in magnum 1.5 L, embodies one of the most sensual, deep and refined expressions of Gevrey-Chambertin. An emblematic Grand Cru of the Côte de Nuits, Charmes-Chambertin gives a broad, perfumed and silky Pinot Noir, here driven by the intensity, ripeness and balance of the 2019 vintage: black cherry, Morello cherry, ripe raspberry, cassis, plum, faded rose, violet, fine spices, liquorice, noble earth, forest floor, fine leather, black tea and a long mineral finish.
Domaine Taupenot-Merme is renowned for precise, elegant wines that remain faithful to the terroirs of the Côte de Nuits, with an approach focused on fruit purity, balance and tannic finesse. Charmes-Chambertin is distinguished by a more velvety and enveloping expression than some of Gevrey’s more austere crus, while retaining depth, structure and ageing capacity. The 2019 vintage brings concentration, aromatic brightness, preserved freshness and remarkable fruit intensity, while the magnum format encourages slow and harmonious evolution.
A great Charmes-Chambertin of depth, texture and charm, where the richness of the 2019 vintage remains carried by terroir precision and the elegance of the Taupenot-Merme style. The wine combines ripe red and black fruits, faded flowers, spices, liquorice, noble earth, forest floor and minerality, with a broad, silky, structured and persistent palate. The magnum format reinforces its ageing dimension, relative freshness and collector character.
Terroir: Charmes-Chambertin, breadth and nobility of Gevrey-Chambertin
The Charmes-Chambertin climat is one of the historic Grands Crus of Gevrey-Chambertin. Its clay-limestone soils, marls and stony elements give Pinot Noir an expression that is generous, perfumed and structured. The cru is renowned for its balance between Gevrey power, silky texture, deep fruit and mineral length.
At Domaine Taupenot-Merme, Charmes-Chambertin translates into a wine of great elegance, at once fleshy, precise and deep. The terroir brings a noble tannic frame, aromatic richness and a persistent finish. In 2019, the ripeness of the vintage reinforces fruit intensity and palate density, while the natural freshness of Pinot Noir preserves tension, balance and clarity of the climat.
Terroir expression: Pinot Noir, Charmes-Chambertin, Gevrey-Chambertin, Côte de Nuits, clay, limestone, marl, black cherry, Morello cherry, ripe raspberry, cassis, plum, faded rose, fine spices, noble earth and persistent minerality.

Tasting notes
Appearance: deep ruby with garnet and purple reflections, bright, dense and still very youthful. In magnum, evolution should remain slower, with the colour preserving brilliance, depth and intensity for a long time.
Nose: deep, pure and highly expressive, with black cherry, Morello cherry, ripe raspberry, cassis, plum, red and black fruits, faded rose, violet, fine spices, liquorice and noble earth. With aeration, nuances of forest floor, fine leather, black tea, cocoa, sweet pepper, bark, light truffle and limestone minerality may appear with evolution.
Palate: broad, dense, silky and elegantly structured, with ripe, precise fruit carried by fine freshness. Flavours of black cherry, Morello cherry, raspberry, cassis, plum, spices, liquorice, fine earth, forest floor and leather unfold with depth, supported by ripe, fine and polished tannins. The finish is long, mineral, lightly saline and spicy, with an impression of charm, controlled power and great Burgundian persistence.
Fruit: black cherry, Morello cherry, ripe raspberry, cassis, plum, red and black fruits, deep berries.
Flowers and spices: faded rose, violet, fine spices, sweet pepper, liquorice, black tea, deep Gevrey perfume.
Evolution and terroir: noble earth, forest floor, fine leather, cocoa, bark, light truffle, limestone minerality, polished tannins.
Overall impression: deep, sensual and structured Grand Cru, with silky texture, intense fruit and a long mineral finish.
Expression of the 2019 vintage
The 2019 vintage in Burgundy produced red wines that are deep, concentrated and remarkably balanced, combining ripe fruit, preserved freshness and great aromatic intensity. In the great terroirs of Gevrey-Chambertin, this year particularly highlights the density of Pinot Noir, tannic finesse, mineral tension and palate length.
Today, this Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru 2019 in magnum remains very young and has great ageing potential. It can already reveal its intensity after measured aeration, but will gain further complexity with time: forest floor, fine leather, truffle, black tea, cocoa, melted spices, noble earth and mineral nuances should gradually join the depth of red and black fruit.
In summary: a deep, sensual and structured Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru 2019 in magnum, driven by the balance of the vintage, the nobility of Gevrey-Chambertin and the elegant signature of Domaine Taupenot-Merme.
Dominant aromas: black cherry, Morello cherry, ripe raspberry, cassis, plum, faded rose, violet, fine spices, liquorice, noble earth, forest floor, fine leather, black tea, light truffle and a long mineral finish.
