Laurent-Perrier Grand Siècle Iteration N°23 — Magnum 1.5 L

This Laurent-Perrier Grand Siècle Iteration N°23 in magnum embodies one of the most ambitious expressions of Maison Laurent-Perrier. More than a vintage Champagne, Grand Siècle seeks to recreate the idea of a perfect year by blending three complementary great vintages, in order to achieve greater balance, depth and harmony than a single vintage alone.

Iteration N°23 brings together the 2006, 2004 and 2002 vintages, with a Chardonnay-dominant profile that delivers brightness, tension and chalky finesse. In magnum 1.5 L, this Champagne benefits from slower and more harmonious evolution, enhancing its appeal for cellaring, gastronomy and collection.

Terroir: eleven Grands Crus and three complementary vintages

Grand Siècle Iteration N°23 is made from 58% Chardonnay and 42% Pinot Noir, sourced from a selection of 11 Champagne Grands Crus. Chardonnay brings verticality, freshness and mineral precision, while Pinot Noir reinforces structure, depth and vinous presence.

The blend is based on 2006 at 65%, 2004 at 20% and 2002 at 15%. The 2006 vintage brings richness and amplitude, 2004 reinforces freshness and balance, while 2002 contributes structure, intensity and length. In magnum, Iteration N°23 benefited from more than 14 years of ageing on lees, explaining its aromatic depth and particularly accomplished texture.

Tasting notes

Appearance: pale gold with golden reflections, brilliant and luminous, with fine, regular and creamy bubbles. The magnum format helps preserve the cuvée’s brightness, freshness and precision over time.

Nose: deep, elegant and highly complex, with candied lemon, pear, peach, roasted apple, dried fruits, salted almond, hazelnut, viennoiserie, croissant, sweet spices, ginger, iodine and a fine chalky touch. With aeration, nuances of toast, fresh butter, white flowers and fine pastry may appear.

Palate: broad, vibrant and perfectly balanced, with a creamy texture, great energy and a very clear saline character. The wine combines yellow fruits, candied citrus, almond, brioche notes, fine spices and chalky minerality, leading to a long, fresh, precise and intensely gastronomic finish.

Expert review

99/100 — James Suckling

James Suckling awarded 99/100 to Laurent-Perrier Grand Siècle Iteration N°23, praising a vibrant, fresh, saline and spicy Champagne with subtle power. Wine Advocate also awarded it 96/100, describing a broad, deep, generous and remarkably long Champagne, while Jancis Robinson MW highlighted the energy, freshness and exceptional expressiveness of the magnum with a score of 19/20.

Expression of Iteration N°23 and the value of magnum

Iteration N°23 offers a mature, fresh and deeply harmonious expression of Grand Siècle. The richness of the 2006 and 2002 vintages is balanced by the tension of 2004, creating a Champagne that is ample yet never heavy, carried by great mineral precision. In magnum, slower evolution enhances the finesse of the bubbles, aromatic freshness and textural complexity, making it a particularly sought-after format among Champagne lovers.

In summary: a Laurent-Perrier Grand Siècle Iteration N°23 in magnum, awarded 99 points by James Suckling, blended from the 2006, 2004 and 2002 vintages, marked by candied citrus, salted almond, viennoiserie, iodine, spice, creamy bubbles and great saline tension.

Food pairings: oysters, langoustines, lobster, scallops, turbot, sole meunière, line-caught sea bass, Bresse chicken with cream, sweetbreads, Parmesan, aged Comté, mushrooms, white truffle or gastronomic cuisine with iodine-driven and lightly toasted notes.
