Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos 2017 – Domaine Raveneau
One of the most noble expressions of Chablis, Les Clos by Raveneau combines power, mineral tension and depth, in a style that is both precise, structured and built for long aging.
Terroir & parcels
The Les Clos climat, at the heart of the Chablis Grand Cru vineyards, is considered the most prestigious of the appellation. It is the largest of the seven grand crus, located on a hillside with a south-west exposure, benefiting from optimal sunlight from midday to evening, allowing slow and complete ripening of Chardonnay.
The terroir is based on Kimmeridgian marl and limestone-rich soils, which give the wine its signature minerality, tension and depth. This combination of slope, exposure and soil composition results in a wine that is typically more powerful, structured and concentrated than other Chablis grands crus.
With the 2017 vintage, Domaine Raveneau delivers a classic and refined expression of the cru: still youthful, yet already showing great intensity, saline character and remarkable aging potential.
Tasting notes
Nose:
Deep and initially restrained, revealing aromas of flint, lemon zest, white flowers, almond and dried fruits, with subtle iodine and smoky nuances.
Palate:
Dense, precise and intensely mineral, with both richness and tension. Flavors of ripe citrus, oyster shell, and white fruits unfold alongside a chalky texture. The wine balances power, purity and energy with great precision.
Finish:
Very long, saline and vibrant, marked by outstanding mineral persistence. A great Chablis, still firm and structured in its youth, destined to gain complexity, honeyed nuances and depth over time.
