Clos de la Coulée de Serrant 2023 – Joly Family

A legendary Chenin Blanc from a historic monopole vineyard, combining power, mineral energy, and profound depth, cultivated in biodynamics

Terroir & Winemaking

The Clos de la Coulée de Serrant is a legendary monopole vineyard located in Savennières, on the right bank of the Loire River. Cultivated since the 12th century by Cistercian monks, this 7-hectare clos rests on soils of schist, quartz, and aeolian sands, providing natural drainage and a strong mineral expression. Its south to south-east exposure overlooking the Loire allows Chenin Blanc to reach optimal ripeness while preserving freshness and tension.

The Joly family has farmed this vineyard using biodynamic practices since the 1980s, with deep respect for natural cycles and living soils. Harvesting is done by hand with successive selections to ensure perfect ripeness. Fermentation occurs with indigenous yeasts, followed by extended aging in barrels without artifice. The 2023 vintage shows a remarkable balance between solar richness and mineral tension, a hallmark of the estate’s great vintages.

Tasting Notes

Nose:
Complex and deep, revealing aromas of quince, ripe apple, and candied citrus, layered with notes of honey, dried flowers, and warm stone. With aeration, nuances of beeswax and fine herbs emerge.

Palate:
Broad and structured, driven by dense texture and vibrant acidity. Both creamy and tense, it reveals schist-driven minerality and impressive depth.

Finish:
Very long and energetic, marked by saline, honeyed, and spicy notes. A remarkable persistence that signals exceptional aging potential.
