Clos de Vougeot 2015 – Domaine Prieuré Roch
An iconic Grand Cru of the Côte de Nuits, Clos de Vougeot 2015 from Domaine Prieuré Roch delivers a deep, sensual and structured expression of Pinot Noir, in a style that is both intense, vibrant and true to the domaine’s singular philosophy.
Terroir & parcels
The Clos de Vougeot, established by Cistercian monks in the 12th century, is one of Burgundy’s most historic Grand Crus. Covering around 50 hectares, it is now divided among multiple owners. The parcel owned by Domaine Prieuré Roch, approximately 0.62 hectare, lies within the highly regarded “royal sector”, one of the finest parts of the vineyard.
The terroir is geologically complex: gravelly and stony soils in the upper section transition to more clay-rich soils lower down, while maintaining excellent drainage. The domaine’s vines, ranging from 45 to 85 years old, originate from plantings in 1929, 1949 and 1969, contributing natural concentration, depth and finesse.
In line with the domaine’s philosophy, organic farming, whole-cluster fermentation and minimal intervention aim to express the terroir with purity. The 2015 vintage, warm and ripe, results in a particularly generous yet energetic Clos de Vougeot, combining richness with a clear mineral backbone.
Tasting notes
Nose:
Deep and intense, revealing aromas of black cherry, ripe raspberry and red plum, complemented by notes of dried rose, sweet spices, licorice and a subtle wild character typical of Prieuré Roch.
Palate:
Broad, dense and textured, with a generous yet well-defined structure. The fruit is both ripe and vibrant, supported by firm but refined tannins, strong inner energy and impressive depth, giving the wine a layered and expressive profile.
Finish:
Long, structured and persistent, marked by dark fruits, spices and a subtle mineral imprint. A Clos de Vougeot of strong character, powerful yet balanced, still youthful today and built for long-term aging.
