Barolo Ravera Riserva Vigna Elena 2016 – Elvio Cogno
An exceptional Barolo from the renowned Ravera cru, combining power, finesse, and depth, with floral elegance and a structure built for very long aging.
Terroir & Winemaking
Produced by Azienda Agricola Elvio Cogno in Novello, in the heart of the Langhe, Vigna Elena is the estate’s flagship cuvée. It comes from a single parcel within the prestigious Ravera cru, known for its calcareous marl soils rich in clay, which give the wines structure, minerality, and outstanding aging potential. This cuvée is made exclusively from Nebbiolo (Lampia selection), expressing the purest identity of the grape on this terroir.
Winemaking follows a traditional approach with long macerations to extract fine tannins and aromatic complexity. Extended aging in large oak casks refines the structure without overshadowing the fruit. Classified as Riserva, the wine benefits from prolonged maturation before release. The 2016 vintage, widely regarded as exceptional in Barolo, stands out for its perfect balance of ripeness, freshness, and tannic precision.
Tasting Notes
Nose:
Complex and noble, with dried rose, black cherry, and plum, layered with truffle, forest floor, delicate tar, and sweet spices. With aeration, notes of tobacco, fine leather, and warm stone emerge.
Palate:
Structured and refined, driven by firm yet elegant tannins. The texture is dense, supported by mineral freshness that brings precision and tension. The balance between power and finesse perfectly reflects the Ravera cru style.
Finish:
Very long and persistent, with black fruits, spices, and a saline minerality. Its depth and complexity suggest remarkable evolution over several decades.
