Terroir & Winemaking

The Les Vaucrains vineyard lies in the southern sector of Nuits-Saint-Georges and is widely considered among the appellation’s most powerful Premier Crus. Set on steep east to southeast-facing slopes, the vines grow in hard, stony limestone soils with excellent natural drainage. This austere, mineral-rich terroir produces wines of structure, depth and impressive longevity.

Domaine Robert Chevillon is known for its classical approach and meticulous vineyard management. Low yields and careful grape selection ensure concentration and precision. Fermentation is handled traditionally, followed by aging in French oak barrels, with restrained use of new oak to preserve purity and terroir expression. The 2020 vintage, marked by warmth and early ripening, delivers ripe fruit and generous texture, balanced by the vineyard’s characteristic tension and minerality.

Tasting Notes

Nose:
Concentrated and expressive, offering aromas of black cherry, blackberry and cassis, intertwined with hints of spice, cracked pepper, warm stone and subtle smoky undertones. With aeration, the bouquet gains depth and complexity.
