Clos des Vignes du Maynes – Bourgogne Cuvée Auguste 2022
A biodynamic Pinot Noir from the Mâconnais, combining pure fruit, limestone freshness and a silky texture, sourced from a historic clos farmed with deep respect for living soils.
Terroir & parcels
The Cuvée Auguste comes from the Clos des Vignes du Maynes, located in Cruzille in the southern Mâconnais. This historic walled vineyard, cultivated for over a millennium, rests on Jurassic clay-limestone soils composed of marl and hard limestone. This geological foundation gives the wine its mineral tension, natural freshness, and a precise expression of Pinot Noir rarely found this far south in Burgundy.
The vines, many several decades old, are farmed under certified biodynamic practices. Moderately sloped hillsides with mainly south and southeast exposures ensure even ripening while preserving vibrant acidity. Careful soil work, indigenous yeasts and minimal intervention in the cellar aim to faithfully translate the identity of the site.
Winemaking is deliberately low-intervention: hand harvesting, spontaneous fermentation, and measured aging in neutral vessels to preserve fruit purity. This approach highlights the wine’s energy, drinkability and living character, a signature of the estate led by Julien Guillot.
Tasting notes
Nose:
Fine and expressive, revealing fresh cherry, raspberry and red currant, lifted by floral notes of violet and peony. Subtle hints of damp earth, sweet spices and a faint smoky nuance reflect the limestone terroir.
Palate:
Supple and graceful, with fine tannins and a silky texture. Lively acidity brings tension and precision, supporting flavors of crunchy red berries, delicate herbs and a discreetly saline mineral backbone.
Finish:
Long and mouthwatering, marked by limestone freshness, gentle spice and an elegant persistence of cherry and wet stone. A vibrant, highly drinkable Burgundy that charms in its youth yet rewards a few years of cellaring.
