Domaine Lécheneaut – A Demanding and Nuanced Côte de Nuits
Located in Nuits-Saint-Georges, at the heart of the Côte de Nuits, Domaine Lécheneaut has grown since the late 1950s to cover a mosaic of 10–12 ha across some 18 appellations, stretching from Chambolle-Musigny to Gevrey-Chambertin, including Morey-Saint-Denis, Vosne-Romanée, and the prestigious Clos de la Roche Grand Cru.
Today, brothers Philippe and Vincent Lécheneaut oversee the estate, combining artisanal winemaking with precise technical mastery to reflect the true character of each terroir.
Viticulture
Practicing organic farming (not certified): worked soils, no herbicides, soft treatments, and low yields. Each plot is individually monitored to respect its identity.
Winemaking
Hand harvesting with strict sorting. Partial destemming depending on vintage and terroir, fermentation with native yeasts, long macerations with gentle pigeage and pump-overs. Ageing for around 18 months in French oak barrels with a variable proportion of new oak. No fining, no filtration.
House Style
Pure fruit expression, fine tannins, balanced acidity and a discreet yet persistent minerality. The villages are juicy and open, the premiers crus gain in intensity and tension, and the Clos de la Roche stands out for its depth and refinement without heaviness.
