Domaine René Rostaing — The deep elegance of Côte-Rôtie

Based in Ampuis, at the heart of Côte-Rôtie, Domaine René Rostaing is one of the most respected names in the Northern Rhône. Founded in 1971 by René Rostaing, the estate was built around remarkable parcels, including prestigious terroirs such as La Landonne, Côte Blonde and several historic lieux-dits of the appellation.

Today led by Pierre Rostaing, the domaine continues to express Syrah with precision and restraint: wines of depth without heaviness, structure without austerity, where dark fruit, violet, pepper, mineral notes and smoky nuances unfold with great distinction.

The spirit of the estate

Rostaing embodies a refined and age-worthy vision of Côte-Rôtie, combining intensity, aromatic finesse and silky texture. The style favours the expression of place, the natural grace of Syrah and a depth that reveals itself beautifully with time.

Terroir and winemaking

The estate’s vineyards lie on the steep terraced slopes of Côte-Rôtie, with schist, granite and lighter soils depending on the sector. This diversity gives rise to complementary expressions: controlled power from La Landonne, floral refinement from Côte Blonde, and balance and accessibility from Ampodium.

Winemaking is guided by balance rather than extraction. Ageing remains measured, preserving the purity of the fruit, the nobility of the tannins and the precise identity of each terroir. With time in the cellar, the wines develop complex notes of truffle, fine leather, spice, smoke and dried violet.

Emblematic cuvées

  • Côte-Rôtie Ampodium — a blend of several lieux-dits, the estate’s central cuvée, fine, spicy and balanced.
  • Côte-Rôtie Côte Blonde — a refined, floral and silky expression of one of the appellation’s most elegant terroirs.
  • Côte-Rôtie La Landonne — a deep, structured and long-lived cuvée.
  • Côte-Rôtie La Viaillère — a more confidential expression from one of the great sectors of Côte-Rôtie.
  • Condrieu La Bonnette — a generous, floral and gastronomic Viognier.
  • Les Lézardes — Collines Rhodaniennes cuvées, produced from Syrah or Viognier depending on the vintage.

Cellaring and food pairings

The Côte-Rôtie wines of Domaine René Rostaing offer excellent ageing potential, particularly Côte Blonde and La Landonne. They pair beautifully with mature rib of beef, roast lamb, pigeon, spiced duck, mushroom-based dishes and aged cheeses.
