Château La Tour Blanche — The Timeless Brilliance of Sauternes

A historic jewel of Sauternes, where noble sweetness meets precision and elegance, carried by a legacy rooted in the terroir.

A Sauternes Icon

Château La Tour Blanche is one of the most prestigious estates in Sauternes, classified as a Premier Grand Cru in 1855. Located atop a hill overlooking the Garonne, the estate embodies the nobility and precision of the great sweet wines of Bordeaux. It is led by Agnès de Lambert-Landry, heir to a lineage deeply connected to the land, alongside Julien Dubois as estate manager and Clémence Martin as consulting oenologist. Together, they preserve the historic soul of the domaine while refining its style with modern precision.

Terroir & Grapes — Small Exceptional Plots on Gravel and Loam

The 67-hectare vineyard lies on clay, loam, and light gravel soils, providing natural drainage ideal for noble rot development. This unique terroir allows for the regular appearance of Botrytis cinerea, essential to crafting great Sauternes.

  • Sémillon (~80%) — structure and aromatic richness
  • Sauvignon Blanc (~15%) — freshness and tension
  • Muscadelle (~5%) — floral finesse and complexity

Viticulture & Philosophy — Late Harvests, Precision and Patience

The estate practices sustainable viticulture, respecting the natural rhythm of the vines. Manual harvesting is carried out in 8 to 10 successive passes, selecting only berries at perfect botrytized ripeness. This patient and meticulous work yields musts of exceptional concentration, balanced by fresh acidity.

Winemaking & Ageing — Aromatic Precision and Barrel Elegance

The musts ferment and age in French oak barrels — about 70% new — for 18 months. This classic and rigorous approach reveals:

  • Velvety texture
  • Controlled aromatic opulence
  • Saline freshness on the finish — the signature of great Sauternes

Style & Cuvées

Château La Tour Blanche (Grand Vin) — intense golden robe, aromas of honey, candied apricot, exotic fruits, white flowers and smoky nuances. The palate reveals delicate richness, lifted by saline tension and refreshing acidity. A wine capable of aging gracefully for several decades.

Cuvée La Dame — a more floral and accessible second wine, expressing the immediate charm of Sauternes with elegance and balance.
