Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe – A Pioneer and Pillar of Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Châteauneuf-du-Pape • Southern Rhône Valley • France — Family estate (~100 ha)
A family saga since 1891
Located on the famous La Crau plateau, Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe is one of the most iconic estates in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Founded in 1891, it is now run by Frédéric and Daniel Brunier, representing the fifth generation. For over 130 years, the Brunier family has cultivated its vineyards with remarkable consistency and respect for its terroirs.
An exceptional terroir
The vineyard extends over nearly 100 hectares, mostly on the La Crau plateau. This legendary terroir is famous for its galets roulés (rounded stones) over a sandy-clay subsoil. Combined with the mistral wind, this setting gives the wines great depth, structure, freshness and longevity.
Viticulture & winemaking
- Traditional vineyard work, partial cover crops, respect for natural balances.
- 100% manual harvesting, rigorous sorting of grapes.
- Long fermentations in wood or stainless steel tanks.
- 20 to 22 months ageing in large old oak foudres.
- No fining or filtration before bottling.
Style & tasting
- Red wines: rich, structured and elegant, with notes of black fruits, garrigue and spices, supported by noble tannins.
- White wines: floral, saline and mineral, with tension and freshness.
- Excellent ageing potential: 20 to 30 years for the finest reds.
