Prieuré Saint Jean de Bébian — a historic Languedoc cru bridging Mediterranean tradition and contemporary precision

Located near Pézenas, Prieuré Saint Jean de Bébian is a legendary Languedoc estate, renowned for its ambitious Mediterranean blends and its ability to craft red and white wines of rare complexity. Its vineyard — a true mosaic of grape varieties and soil types — is considered one of the most qualitative in the region.

Key People

  • Alain Roux — former owner, a key figure in the estate’s qualitative renaissance during the 1990s.
  • Karen Turner — Australian winemaker who helped shape the modern Bébian style.
  • Current team — committed to meticulous vineyard management and precise winemaking.

Philosophy

The ambition of Bébian has always been to produce expressive wines that stand alongside the great Mediterranean crus, while preserving a distinctly Languedoc identity. The estate practices sustainable viticulture, hand harvesting, and parcel-based vinification to highlight each terroir.

History & Milestones

  • 1990s–2000s: national and international recognition — Bébian became a benchmark for “the new qualitative Languedoc.”
  • 2010s–2020s: greater focus on parcel precision and élevage refinement.
