Domaine Sylvie Esmonin – Elegance at the Heart of Gevrey-Chambertin

Gevrey-Chambertin • Côte de Nuits • Burgundy, France — Family estate (~7 ha)

History & philosophy

Sylvie Esmonin took over the family estate in the early 1990s, carrying on a long winemaking tradition while shaping her own precise, terroir-driven style. With about 7 hectares of vines, the estate is today one of the most respected addresses in Gevrey-Chambertin, known for its elegant yet structured Pinot Noirs.

Vineyard & winemaking

  • Reasoned, sustainable viticulture: regular plowing, no herbicides, careful vintage monitoring.
  • Manual harvesting with a variable proportion of whole clusters.
  • Fermentations with indigenous yeasts, long and gentle macerations.
  • Ageing in French oak barrels (a portion sourced from Domaine Leroy), with moderate new oak to preserve fruit and terroir expression.

Style & tasting

  • Elegant, structured Pinot Noirs with silky tannins and a mineral backbone.
  • Complex aromas of ripe red fruits, spices, and delicate floral notes.
  • Wines often closed in youth but develop remarkable depth with age.
