Gagliole – Organic Elegance and Contemporary Precision in the Heart of Chianti Classico

A refined and terroir-driven vision of modern Sangiovese

Nestled between Castellina in Chianti, Panzano, and Badia a Passignano, Gagliole stands among the most elegant and consistent estates of the contemporary Chianti Classico landscape. Since the 1990s, the Bär family has shaped this Tuscan vineyard with a clear philosophy: elevate Sangiovese from high-altitude sites through organic farming and a deeply preserved natural environment.

The estate is recognised for its pursuit of finesse, purity, and structural elegance — qualities that define the finest wines of modern Chianti Classico.

Terroirs & Vineyard

The estate spans a mosaic of 22 hectares across three major zones, each offering a distinct interpretation of Sangiovese:

Castellina in Chianti
Ancient terraces of galestro and alberese. Stony, draining soils that shape wines of marked minerality and linear tension.

Panzano – Conca d’Oro
A natural clay-limestone amphitheatre renowned for perfect ripening. Wines here are deeper, more structured, with a refined solar energy.

Badia a Passignano
Higher altitude parcels surrounded by forest. Fresh nights and aeration yield wines of lifted aromatics and vertical length.

Sangiovese is the soul of the estate, complemented by Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and select white varieties for the Toscana IGT wines.

Philosophy & Farming Practices

Gagliole is fully certified organic and follows a viticulture designed to protect both soil identity and the vitality of the Tuscan landscape:

  • carefully managed cover crops,
  • 100% manual vineyard work,
  • low, controlled yields,
  • strict parcel selection,
  • manual harvesting in multiple passes.

The goal is clear: reveal the most faithful, luminous and finely etched expression of Sangiovese.

Winemaking & Aging

Winemaking follows principles of balance, restraint, and meticulous precision:

  • rigorous sorting of grapes,
  • long and controlled fermentations,
  • gentle extraction,
  • tailored aging depending on the cuvée: barriques, large casks, concrete or stainless steel tanks,
  • measured oak use, always integrated, never dominant.

This approach highlights fruit purity, refined tannins, and the vertical elegance characteristic of high-altitude Chianti Classico.

Wine Style

Gagliole wines are defined by:

  • a clear and expressive aromatic profile,
  • pure fruit — black cherry, lingonberry, Mediterranean herbs,
  • a natural freshness driving the length,
  • silky yet structured tannins,
  • elegant depth without heaviness.

Their interpretation of Sangiovese emphasises finesse, tension, and clarity — perfectly aligned with the finest expressions of modern Chianti Classico.
