Château de Beaucastel — A Monument of the Rhône Valley
Located in Courthézon, at the northern edge of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation, Château de Beaucastel stands as one of the most legendary estates of the Southern Rhône. Owned by the Perrin family since 1909, it embodies a philosophy built on respect for the land, biodiversity and parcel-based vinification. Revered worldwide for the depth and longevity of its wines, Beaucastel is an undisputed benchmark for Rhône lovers.
Terroir & Grape Varieties — The Power of Galets Roulés
The estate spans 120 hectares of vineyards planted on a mosaic of soils — rounded pebbles (galets roulés), sand, clay, and gravel — typical of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. These iconic stones retain daytime heat and release it at night, ensuring optimal ripening of the grapes. Beaucastel grows all 13 traditional grape varieties of the appellation, with a dominance of Grenache, Mourvèdre, Syrah and Counoise, along with rarer whites such as Roussanne and Clairette, contributing to the wines’ complexity and balance.
Viticulture & Philosophy — Harmony and Biodiversity
A pioneer of organic viticulture in the Rhône Valley, Beaucastel has been certified for several decades. The estate embraces an agroecological approach: natural cover crops, manual harvesting, integrated pest management, and a complete absence of chemical products. Biodiversity and respect for natural cycles guide every stage of the growing season, achieving a perfect balance between power, freshness, and purity of expression.
Winemaking & Aging — Tradition Meets Precision
Each grape variety is vinified separately in large concrete or stainless-steel vats, with long macerations and regular pump-overs for gentle extraction. The blends are assembled after fermentation to ensure perfect harmony between structure, fruit, and finesse. The wines are then aged for 12 to 18 months in large old oak foudres or demi-muids, without filtration, preserving their texture, purity, and aromatic depth.
Signature Wines
- Château de Beaucastel Rouge — The estate’s flagship cuvée: deep and complex, with notes of black cherry, leather, garrigue, and Mediterranean spices. Dense, harmonious palate, silky tannins, and a long, slightly saline finish.
- Hommage à Jacques Perrin — A prestigious cuvée from old Mourvèdre vines, produced only in exceptional vintages. Concentrated, refined, and with extraordinary aging potential (20–30 years).
- Château de Beaucastel Blanc — Predominantly Roussanne with Grenache Blanc and Clairette. Floral and citrus aromas, ample texture, minerality, and elegant tension.
- Roussanne Vieilles Vignes — 100% old-vine Roussanne. A powerful, structured and mineral-driven white wine of remarkable precision and longevity.
