Based in Erden, at the heart of Germany’s Mosel Valley, Weingut Dr. Hermann has established itself as one of the region’s leading names in Riesling. The 6.5-hectare estate includes some of the Mosel’s most prestigious vineyards — Erdener Treppchen, Erdener Prälat, and Ürziger Würzgarten. The red and blue slate soils characteristic of the Mosel impart a distinctive mineral energy to the wines. The vines, planted on steep south to southeast-facing slopes reaching gradients of up to 70%, benefit from optimal sunlight and a cool microclimate conducive to slow, balanced ripening. The estate grows exclusively Riesling, expressing its most precise and pure form here. Many vines are ungrafted and over a century old, yielding wines of remarkable tension and aromatic complexity.

The estate practices rigorous manual viticulture adapted to the steep terrain, with moderate yields and selective hand-harvesting in multiple passes to ensure optimal ripeness. Fermentations are slow and natural, taking place in stainless steel tanks or traditional oak casks, followed by aging on fine lees to enhance freshness, depth, and purity. This traditional Mosel approach achieves a precise balance between residual sugar, acidity, and mineral expression.

Dr. Hermann’s wines are defined by their crystalline precision, featuring aromas of white fruits, citrus zest, flowers, flint, and a distinctive saline freshness. Each cuvée reveals its vineyard’s personality — from delicate Kabinett to opulent Beerenauslese. The wines exhibit remarkable longevity, ranging from 10 to 30 years depending on the style.
