Domaine Tortochot — The Classical Purity of Great Pinot Noir from Gevrey-Chambertin

Domaine Tortochot is a historic family estate in Gevrey-Chambertin, today led by Chantal Tortochot. The domaine farms around 12 hectares across numerous parcels in the Côte de Nuits, with a remarkable patrimony of village wines, premiers crus and grands crus.

Entirely dedicated to Pinot Noir, the domaine follows a precise and terroir-conscious approach. Certified organic, it produces clear, structured and expressive wines, where the character of Gevrey is conveyed through depth, pure fruit and fine energy.

The spirit of the domaine

A Burgundy of terroir, restraint and precision. Domaine Tortochot seeks straight, expressive Pinot Noirs that remain faithful to their climats, with measured vinification, adapted extraction and a strong focus on aromatic purity.

Terroirs and grands crus

The domaine owns a fine collection of vineyards in Gevrey-Chambertin, with village wines, premiers crus and several grands crus. The clay-limestone soils give deep, structured wines marked by the mineral frame typical of the Côte de Nuits.

The domaine’s grands crus, notably Charmes-Chambertin, Chambertin, Clos de Vougeot and Mazis-Chambertin depending on vintages and availability, form the most ambitious expressions of the house. They combine structure, intensity, spice, black fruit and long ageing potential.

Vinification and style

Vinification generally favours destemming, indigenous yeasts, progressive extraction and barrel ageing adapted to the level of appellation. The style is precise and measured, with clear, structured wines capable of ageing well.

Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru: a broad and refined wine, marked by black fruit, fine spice and silky texture.

Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru: a deeper and more structured expression, with greater power, minerality and ageing capacity.

Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru: a broad and serious cuvée, with firm tannins and long ageing potential.

Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Lavaux Saint-Jacques: a characterful premier cru, fresh, structured, profound and highly representative of Gevrey.

Gevrey-Chambertin: an expressive village cuvée combining red fruit, black fruit, spice, structure and typicity.

Ageing and gastronomic pairings

Tortochot’s grands crus can evolve for 15 to 25 years depending on the vintage, while premiers crus and village wines can be enjoyed earlier and gain complexity with time. They pair beautifully with duck, roast poultry, lamb, fine game, mushrooms, truffle, slow-cooked dishes and mature cheeses.

In summary: Domaine Tortochot is a fine family signature of Gevrey-Chambertin. Chantal Tortochot produces organic Pinot Noirs that are precise and faithful to their terroirs, from village wines to the major grands crus of the Côte de Nuits.

Dominant aromas: black cherry, sour cherry, raspberry, violet, sweet spices, liquorice, fresh earth, forest floor, fine leather and a mineral finish.
