2024 Vintage — First Impressions of a Winemaker's Vintage

The 2024 vintage is still being assessed. Early tastings and reports from leading wine critics describe a demanding vintage, shaped by challenging weather conditions but capable of producing excellent wines in the hands of the best estates. The first impressions highlight fresher, more classic and lower-alcohol wines than the 2022 or 2018 vintages.

At this stage, the most encouraging reports concern several leading terroirs in Bordeaux, a number of outstanding producers in Burgundy, and estates that successfully mastered one of the most challenging growing seasons in recent years. Assessments will continue to evolve as the wines are bottled and reviewed by international critics.

Our Recommendation

As the vintage is still being evaluated, we recommend focusing on the most consistent producers rather than the overall reputation of a region. Early reports are particularly encouraging for several leading Bordeaux estates and many Burgundy producers that successfully managed an exceptionally challenging growing season.
