Masseto 2018 — Tenuta Masseto
This Masseto 2018 from Tenuta Masseto embodies one of Italy’s greatest Merlots and one of the most iconic wines of the Tuscan coast. From the celebrated clay-rich terroir of Bolgheri, it offers a wine of exceptional depth, at once sensual, powerful and beautifully balanced: blackberry, black plum, cassis, black cherry, blueberry, violet, cocoa, liquorice, cedar, blond tobacco, graphite, sweet spices and a long mineral finish.
Masseto is a global benchmark for Merlot, renowned for its ability to combine Mediterranean richness, velvety texture, aromatic precision and long ageing potential. The 2018 vintage stands out for its balance, relative freshness and great elegance, offering an expression less solar than some very opulent years, yet remarkably refined. It brings together the flesh of black fruit, the depth of clay soils and a tannic structure that is silky yet enduring.
A great Tuscan Merlot, deep, suave and highly refined, where Masseto’s natural power remains carried by elegant freshness and remarkable precision. The 2018 combines ripe black fruits, plum, violet, cocoa, liquorice, cedar, graphite and spices, with a broad, velvety, dense and persistent palate. It is a wine of texture, prestige and long ageing potential, both generous and perfectly controlled.
Terroir: Masseto, blue clay and the depth of Bolgheri
The Masseto vineyard lies in Bolgheri, on the Tuscan coast, in a sector marked by particularly deep clay soils. These clays give Merlot exceptional density, an enveloping texture and great ageing capacity. The Mediterranean climate brings ripeness and aromatic richness, while maritime influence helps preserve freshness, balance and precision.
Merlot finds a highly singular expression here: more solar and Mediterranean than in Bordeaux, yet still driven by noble structure and mineral depth. In the 2018, the terroir translates into a wine with intense black fruit, sumptuous texture and a long, fresh and finely saline finish. Notes of plum, blackberry, cassis, violet, cocoa, graphite and spice are woven into a highly harmonious frame.
Terroir expression: Merlot, Bolgheri, Tuscany, deep clay, blackberry, black plum, cassis, black cherry, violet, cocoa, liquorice, graphite, cedar and mineral freshness.

Expression of the 2018 vintage
The 2018 vintage in Bolgheri is marked by a particularly successful balance between ripeness, freshness and finesse. For Masseto, this year gives a wine of great elegance, less defined by solar power than by precision, texture and harmony. The black fruit remains deep and generous, while the freshness of the vintage brings length, clarity and an additional sense of refinement.
Today, Masseto 2018 remains young and has excellent ageing potential. It can already impress through its velvety texture, depth and balance after careful aeration, but will gain further complexity with time: cedar, tobacco, fine leather, graphite, cocoa, truffle, melted spices, Mediterranean forest floor and mineral nuances should gradually join the richness of the black fruit.
In summary: a deep, velvety and highly harmonious Masseto 2018, driven by the elegance of the vintage, the singularity of Bolgheri’s clay soils and the prestigious signature of Tenuta Masseto.
Dominant aromas: blackberry, black plum, cassis, black cherry, blueberry, violet, cocoa, liquorice, cedar, blond tobacco, graphite, mocha, fine leather and a long mineral finish.
