Vinattieri 2012 – Luigi Zanini
A benchmark Ticino Merlot: depth, precision and long-lived elegance
Terroir
Vinattieri 2012 is crafted from Merlot grown on carefully selected hillside parcels in Ticino, southern Switzerland, where the vineyards benefit from a warm, sun-drenched, south-of-the-Alps climate with distinct day-night temperature shifts. The vines are rooted in well-drained soils combining clay, calcareous components and stony elements, offering both water retention and natural restriction of vigour. Low yields and meticulous parcel selection shape a wine of concentration, tension and definition, expressing the unique identity of Ticino Merlot with a refined, almost Bordelais sense of structure.
Tasting Notes
Nose:
Deep and refined, the bouquet opens on black cherry, blackberry and plum, followed by notes of dark chocolate, tobacco leaf and a hint of cedar and graphite. Subtle nuances of dried herbs and sweet spices add complexity and a distinctly Mediterranean lift.
Palate & Finish:
The palate is full-bodied, dense and finely structured, with polished, tightly knit tannins wrapped around a core of ripe dark fruit. A fresh, well-balanced acidity keeps the wine vibrant and linear, while the texture remains velvety yet firm. The finish is long, persistent and savoury, echoing black cherry, cocoa, graphite and a delicate balsamic note, underlining the age-worthy character of this 2012 Vinattieri.
