José L. Ferrer Sonvida Binissalem Baleares 1961 — Mallorca
This José L. Ferrer Sonvida Binissalem Baleares 1961 is a rare and singular old bottle from Mallorca, in the heart of the Balearic Islands. More than a wine alone, it represents a historic vintage and a distinctive Mediterranean expression, now shaped by bottle age, time-patinated complexity and tertiary nuance.
Terroir: Binissalem, Mediterranean warmth and the memory of old vintages
The Binissalem region, in central Mallorca, benefits from a Mediterranean climate marked by light, warmth and insular influence. These conditions traditionally give wines with generous fruit, spicy notes and a sun-kissed structure, capable of developing deeply evolved nuances with age.
After several decades in bottle, the 1961 vintage should be approached as a collector’s wine and a piece of vinous history. Its interest lies above all in the expression of time: candied fruit, leather, tobacco, sweet spices, undergrowth, dried fruits and noble oxidative touches, depending on the precise condition of the bottle.
Tasting notes
Appearance: evolved garnet with brick, amber or mahogany reflections, with an intensity naturally softened by age.
Nose: old and delicately evolved, with candied cherry, dried fig, prune, fine leather, tobacco, sweet spices, old wood and undergrowth. With aeration, nuances of dried fruits, warm earth, Mediterranean herbs and lightly oxidative notes may appear.
Palate: supple, melted and time-softened, carried more by aromatic complexity than by power. The tannins are fully softened, the fruit moves into a candied register, and the finish evokes spices, tobacco, leather and a discreetly persistent Mediterranean warmth.
Fruit: candied cherry, dried fig, prune, evolved red fruits, dried fruits.
Spices and evolution: tobacco, fine leather, sweet spices, old wood, lightly oxidative notes.
Terroir: undergrowth, warm earth, Mediterranean herbs, island warmth and a time-patinated finish.
In summary: a rare old bottle from Mallorca, full of history and character, to be appreciated for the charm of its evolution, its tertiary nuances and the singular testimony it offers of a 1961 vintage from the Balearic Islands.
