Château du Cedre cuvée GC 2008

Tasting notes

"Intense hue. Highly expressive nose with accents of toast, roasted coffee and black fruits in the background. Concentrated, generous palate. Full-throttle power on the attack leading into a firmer mid-palate and finish with predominant oak tannins. Still austere. "

Château du Cèdre: Excellence and Innovation in Cahors Wines

Château du Cèdre is a renowned winery located in the Cahors appellation, in the heart of South-Western France. Since its founding in 1973, the estate has become a key player in the wine industry of the Lot region, known for the exceptional quality of its red wines, primarily made from the Malbec grape variety.

History of Château du Cèdre

The estate was founded by Léon Verhaeghe, a Belgian immigrant, who settled in the Lot region in the 1950s. His son, Charles Verhaeghe, later took over the winery and began replanting vines on the rocky terroirs of Cahors. Today, the Verhaeghe brothers, Pascal and Jean-Marc, grandsons of Léon and both trained oenologists, continue the family legacy, maintaining a strong commitment to quality and innovation.

Commitment to Organic Viticulture

Château du Cèdre was a pioneer in adopting organic viticulture practices in the Cahors region. The estate received its organic certification in 2012, implementing environmentally-friendly practices to produce wines that truly reflect the richness and diversity of the terroir.

The Wines of Château du Cèdre

The estate is best known for its Malbec wines, carefully crafted to offer both fruity expressions and wines with excellent aging potential. Key cuvées include:

  • Château du Cèdre: An elegant and complex red wine, typical of the appellation.
  • Le Cèdre: A high-end cuvée that embodies the estate's know-how.
  • Cèdre Héritage: Available in both red and white, showcasing the diversity of the estate's terroirs.

The wines of Château du Cèdre have received several accolades, including high scores from Wine Enthusiast, which awarded 92 points to the 2022 vintage of "Le Cèdre."

An Artisan Philosophy in Harmony with the Terroir

Château du Cèdre adopts an artisan approach, focusing on quality at every step of production, from the vineyard to the cellar. The estate works with parcels of land across the diverse terroirs of the Cahors appellation, ensuring wines that are unique, aromatic, and structured.
