One of Napa Valley’s most iconic wines, Insignia is a benchmark Bordeaux-style blend crafted exclusively from estate vineyards of Joseph Phelps Vineyards, renowned for its depth, elegance and exceptional aging potential.

Terroir & vineyards

The grapes come from several estate vineyards across the prestigious Napa Valley, including sites in Stags Leap District, Rutherford, Oakville and St. Helena. This diversity of terroirs allows the winemaking team to craft a layered and complex blend that reflects the full character of Napa Valley.

The soils vary from gravel and clay to volcanic deposits, providing excellent drainage and encouraging deep vine rooting. Combined with Napa Valley’s Mediterranean climate—warm days and cool nights—these conditions allow Bordeaux grape varieties to ripen fully while preserving freshness and balance.

The blend is typically led by Cabernet Sauvignon, supported by Petit Verdot, Malbec, Merlot and sometimes Cabernet Franc. The 2021 vintage is considered outstanding in Napa Valley, producing wines with remarkable concentration, precision and structure.

Tasting notes

Nose:
Expressive and layered, with aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry and black cherry, complemented by notes of dark chocolate, graphite, cedar, sweet spices and subtle vanilla from oak aging.

Palate:
Rich and structured, with silky, well-integrated tannins. Concentrated dark fruit flavors mingle with hints of cocoa, spice and toasted oak, balanced by vibrant acidity and impressive depth.

Finish:
